9600se question

My little brother just got a hand me down computer from my uncle. Its a emachine with a sempron 2800+ and the videocardis a 9600se. Is the 9600se a crippled version of the 9600? besides lower clockspeed whats the difference? Is there any unlockables?
 
Its a 64bit version of the 9600 series.
Nothing to unlock, but overclocks a little bit.
 
SE = disabled pipes. I don't think you can unlock the 9600SEs either (they physically cut the pipes).

Yes, it is crippled.

No.. SE doesn't mean disabled pipes, nor did they "cut" or "disable" any of them. The only differences are the clocks and the 64bit memory on the SE versus the 128bit memory on the pro/xt series. It even has the same clocks as the vanilla 9600, but lacks the 2x64 memory..

thanks a lot for the info, I dont think he'll be using aa or af so the 64bit memory won't hurt him that much. Is it safe to oc this card if it uses passive cooling?
 
yeah you can OC it, but will need Mod'd drivers for the clock to stay. the ATI drivers go back to stock settings (forget when ATI included this OC disabling feature to the Catalyst). there are a few flavors to choose from. i liked the Softmod Catalyst packages and ATI Tool for overclocking.

Yeah, sorry, I think I was actually thinking of 9550SE... I think.

There WAS one SE card that they actually cut the pipes on. And I know they disabled the pipes on 9800SE.
