I imagine this has been asked before, but...

Is this possible? Where would a guy go to find out? I hear about the 9800se to 9800pro a lot but havent heard much about the 9600p to XT. My mem on my card does 350-360 easy, but gpu only gets up to ~450 before w1zzard's util says thats it. Is there a hardwire volt mod involved?

Just currious.
 
The only thing you could do is overclock the 9600P to 9600XT speeds. Thats about the extend of it. Talk to Unoid if you want to volt mod it or something :p
 
Thanks, I'll check those things out. Looks like if your card can run at XT speeds then there is no reason to flash. Mine cant, so I guess I get 450/350 only. Perhapse Unoid will find out if there is a volt mod in the flash which will enable the higher speeds.
 
I've only been told by a gigabyte owner that his 9600xt was volted at 1.3V gpu, opposed to 1.25Vgpu of the 9600pros.
and for most 9600pros to achieve the 500mhz gpu stable 1.3v would work.

There is no gains by using a XT bios. the Bios file doesn't change voltages on the card.

Simply overclock the card to its safe limit. if you want to juice your card for more performance (gpu mainly only, vmem doens't work so good)

Bios changes are unneeded and only cause problems. if you want to have xt speeds w/o having to use a program just edit your own bios to flash back at speeds of your max overclock safely.
 
by flashing the bios you are merely changing the default clock speeds of the card not the performance. sur different bioses might have a slight performance lead over other but only about 1/10 of a frame at most.

softmodding is something completely different. when a card is softmodded, more pixel pipelines are enabled (4 to 8) which equals more performance. softmods can yild enormous amounts of performance.

a bios flash is not the same as a softmod. thats the bottom line.
 
hey unoid, you have any info on a 9600 n/p? I've got one with samsung memory and wouldn't mind butchering it a little to see how far i can get it :)

I have noticed all the low clock speeds on ATi 9600 Pro's. Should I just consider myself very lucky to be able to run 538/349 on my homemade HSF? I seem to recall that [H]ardOCP did a review on a pre-production model and was getting like 560 something core clocks with the RadLinker? utility. What kind of fans are you guys using that you can only get 450-500 core clocks? I think a stock one runs 400/300 with that fantastic stock HSF :rolleyes:

I just measured my GPU voltage at 1.292 and my Vmem at 2.780 on my 9600 Pro. Am I gathering correctly that you did not see any appreciable difference in upping the Vmem? I'm not sure it would be worth the hassle to up the memory voltage less than a tenth of a volt.

However, how much better stability and O/C resulted from upping the GPU voltage in the range of about 1.4v? Did you try putting in a precision potentiometer or was that the note about hitting 1.5v?

BTW, how does the AGP mb voltages figure into all this? I had to raise my AGP mb voltage to get the 538/349 figures.

only the first runs of the 9600pro hit 500+ with regularity. nowdays 450 is about the norm for 9600pro's .

the reason why your not on par with te 9600pro review card is because that is a rev.1 card. rev.1 cards had increased core and mem voltages compared to rev.2 9600pros. consider yourself lucky to have gotten such a nice card i had a rev.2 that did 540/ 360 no vmod on gpu and 3v+ ramsinks on the crappy 3.3ns samsung

I thought the AGP voltage didnt matter squat as far as getting to the vcore as the cards have voltage regulaters on them.

How do you tell version 1 from version 2 cards? My card looks virtually identical to the one Unoid has a pic of on his site. My circuit board shows a part number (PN) of 109-A03400-00. The white sticker shows a PN of 102A0340100 077814.

The place I got it from typically has a lot of old (new) stock around. Is it possible I have a revision 1 board? The reason I am at 538 core is that is the highest the Rage3D goes to. I haven't tried any of the other OC tools as yet :D
 
Voltage differences between rev1 and rev2 and apparently XT's aren't there. each company varies by a slight amount, IE: 2.6vmem opposed to 2.75v. its nothing to worry bout.

I'm not sure the exact differences but rev2 9600pro looks identical to 9600XT. Which led me to guess the rev2 Pros are in low-k since that was the only diff between the two cards, but I doubt thats true.

a safe and good vmod would be 1.4v gpu and 2.9v mem.

I'd advise some aftermarket gpu cooler for 1.4v tho for longer life.

any core over 500 is a good core.

oh YEAH!!! almost forgot-------------------------------

to tell a rev1 from a rev2, look at the upper right of your card front side: if you have circles in white where there should be 2 components then your a XT or rev2. the rev1's have these components Including more I haven't mentioned.

I think ATi really keeps tabs on these kinds of forums and makes production changes so they can throttle back a too good product. Do you suppose that the 9600XT just has a revision 1 9600 Pro board?
 
Well it appears I have a revision 1 board :p The only parts missing from my boards are mostly some resistors and capacitors around the area where a 12v socket can be soldered in. Just a guess that they are some kind of filtering circuit for the 12v in that isn't there ;)

Does anyone have a revision 1 board that knows the values of the missing surface mount parts? I'm sure ATi won't tell me...
