Hi all. I bought a ECS 9600gt from newegg recently.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814134040

Card works great but GPU-Z is reporting the card runs Extremely hot, 62C idle 80C load. Could something be wrong with the sensors? Or do Accelero coolers just read hot? Ive had it for a few weeks now and have never had a problem with the card crashing or artifacts, but i figured i should ask before i try to overclock it and it runs even hotter. BTW i have an extra 120mm fan that i could stick on it if that might help. THX

Sounds like the cooler isn't making proper contact with the core or the program isn't reading temps correctly. Try another program like Rivatuner.

why didnt you just buy a 9600gt with a fan on it in the first place?

It is passively cooled out the box. Add a fan to it. The accelero is an exceptional heatsink when a good fan attached. Either that or you can by the fan add on itself which is just as good.

120mm fan should do the trick. You can run it with VERY low refs so you don't basically hear it.

Not enough case airflow to run passive. That said, 80C load is well within spec for a 9600 GT in so far as I know. It's not like it's going to melt; if it isn't artifacting or causing problems, you could just as easily leave it alone.

Wow, should have looked at the picture, whoops :p. Agreed with above, you need a fan on it, looks like you don't have enough case airflow.

what's the rest of your rig? temp wise.. i was looking at the pic from egg, you did took that paper on the heatsink off, right? :D anyway, a fan should help that gpu cool off..

Im using a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H RS780 mATX with a phenom 9500 @ 2.46ghz. CPU idles at 47C even with the overclock. Using a Silverstone LC-20m HTPC case, and now im kinda kicking myself for getting this board instead of a full ATX because basically i have no room to install the fan on the GPU without taking out my X-fi. I just figured this case would have better airflow with all the fans I installed.

No point in replying unless it constructive. Dont be a troll please. :D
wasnt trying to be a troll. I just never understand the people that buy a passively cooled card and then are surprised that it runs hot. their next course of action is to add a fan which defeats the whole point of the card in first place. unless you are getting a very low end passively cooled card its going to run very hot so just get a decent cooling solution to begin with. ;)

Gotta say I actually bought it because it was on sale not because i wanted a passively cooled silent card. I didnt include that in my thread because i figured my reasons for buying it had nothing to do with the question. The newegg customer reviews had it nowhere near that hot, but I put it in an htpc case so im not incredibly surprised just wondering if those temps are in the red zone or not.

I ended up just sticking that 120mm fan in the case blowing air toward the back of the card and now im idling at 50c! I feel alot better, thanks for the input guys. Time to test an overclock.

Much better. Mount a fan blowing directly onto the heatsink and you'll get even better temps; my 8800GT + Accelero idles at 38C with a 1000 RPM Scythe fan.

You are very correct. My temps now idle about 46C overclocked. THX
