I saw these on ebay and wanted to bite, but I noticed that the memory was only 384MB. The ones that I saw on Newegg are 768MB, I was wondering if the memory difference made a huge difference for folding?

Any advice is appreciated...Thanks everyone!!:)

Thats a good price, and shipping is good for 2+ cards.

If I where looking I'd bite.

Those are the same cards we purchased for the Community Boxen Program.

It looks like Boxen2 is running good (with schenksmill)
Boxen1 seems to be down in PPD but still running (with PsychoFanatic) but that amy be due to the nVidia core problems as of late.

You could shoot them a PM and ask about performance of that card.

Wow, that's exactly the same GPU as I already have and I can't pass up this deal

I've read where the memory doesn't make much difference in GPU2 (within reason) :D

ATM my eVGA 9600GSO boxen is "fry city". When it was doing 24/7 duty with a stock E6600 and 1 GB PC6400 RAM I think it got about 3800+ PpD. With a simple OC' of the shaders to 1600 I think I remember the PpD in the heavy 4900 PpD's to the light 5000 PpD's. (courtesy of the nVIDIA Precision program) :p

Good luck, $50 bucks for a eVGA 9600GSO UnFreakingBelievable (UFB)

That's obviously because Boxen2 > Boxen1 :D

Anyhoo, the performance on these varies a lot based on the WUs. The 5506s and thereabouts I nail around 4500 PPD on the 9600 GSO. The 5748s on the other hand drop it down to around 2700 PPD. That being said, I'm still getting more 06s than 84s, so overall it should average to around 3500-4000 PPD given the current folding climate.

How do you get into this Community Boxen program? Because I have to empty pci e slots and nothign to put in them.

They just happened to be looking for homes for some stuff a few months back, and I had a slot available....maybe sometime soon there will be more coming through, though Evil and Kendrak would be the ones to know about that

So this just happen once in a while im guessing? How does one get chosen to do this because I'm always looking to help out.

Probably the next time donations build up to the point where new hardware can be bought, they'll do another call for homes.

wow the price is a pretty good deal! but yea as others say.. the memory doesn't matter much right now for folding. Fold on :)

Good deal thx picked up a couple. I have a couple MSI K9A2 PLATINUM 790FX MB but I have been having a few set backs. One box had this exact card short. Heard popping and the MB would shut down. I restarted it thinking it was the PS and was surprised it restarted until I saw smoke coming of the back of Evga 9600 gso. Shut down quickly and removed the offending card, Bought from ebay and waiting for seller to e-mail me invoice for rma to evga. My other box all of a sudden starting going into some sort of zombie mode. Would still be running but no video. Running 8 x 9600 GSOs has been troublesome so far. I was hoping for more of a trouble free experience but looks like I'll have t baby them as much as my quad Vmware Ubuntus. Oh well.
