9600 vs 9800SE

If you are spending that much on a 9800se, you may as well fork over the extra $15 for a 9600xt.

a 9600pro will normally beat a 9800se becuase of the slower core speed on the 9800se. a 9600xt will spank the SE like a redhedded stepchild and for only a few $ more to boot.(unless of course you get one that has a 256-bit memory path (L-Shaped ram configuration) and can unlock the other 4 piplines without artifacting).

I wouldn't get a 9600np. a 9600xt is the minimum I would get. Even then, you should consider a 9800pro since they are around the $210 mark now. Much better investment if you can spare the change...or just wait it out and see how things turn when the new cards hit the market.

Get a real card! 9600XT/ 5900XT/ or even a 9800Pro (around $210 now)

For near the same price you can buy an ATI 9500 128MB from www.allstarshop.com with the L shaped configuration and mod that to the 9700 with the softmod drivers from www.ocfaq.com. I have searched many times, but have been unable to find a 9800se with L shaped memory (like all the 9800se AIW's out in Europe) here in the states. If you wanna spend the extra $$$, definitely get the 9800 pro for near $210.

are you sure about that, even though the 9800 has a 256-bit memory interface, and 8 pipeline architecture?

9800se is only 4 pipeline and 128bit memory interface.

yeah...just saw that and corrected myself, before i was under the impression that it was basically the same as a 9800 np.

It wouldn't be a 9600Pro but an XT (I know that the performance difference is miniumal) and then you would see the 9800SE do better then the XT by a hair. Agianst a 9700Pro would be a no contest- the 9700Pro would just spank the SE.

For anyone thinking of getting I suggest you read up on it:

My 9800se has 256-bit mem but only 4 pipelines. I can unlock the other 4, but have Artifacts. I don't there is a way to fix them unless someone knows how...
