I currently have an 8600 GT (only one, not SLI) and im not totally impressed with it's performance. Would a 9600 GT provide noticebly supiorer quality without having to SLI? Also, would I have to SLI a 9600 to get better performance than the 3850's?

Someone sell me here, im trying to see how much of a benefit it is. Ive read the benchmarks and have seen the posts here but im not convinced.

well if you looked at the benchmarks and you arent convinced then I dont know what to tell you.

how about listing the rest of your specs including what resolution you will be playing at.

I just got a 9600. SLi performance is very good. Scales well in all my games...with the exception of Crysis, which doesn't scale well no matter what SLi or Crossfire rig you have.

Some places, you'll be running 60-70 FPS on all high with SLi, then you drop to 20-25 FPS (and lower) in fight scenes, about the same as you would with a single card. Leave it to Crapsis to give you MGPU performance jumps....exactly when you don't need it.

3DMark06 I scored over 10,000 with just a Core 2 e6300. OC'd ive gotten to 750 / 1835 / 2000 up from 650 /1625/1800, which puts the performance on par with an 8800 GT run with an e6300 at the same speed.

Ogilvy,

In your SLI performance experience thus far, do you find that UT3 stutters no matter what you do? I did not have this problem with previous 8800gts 320. High frames mean nothing if one cannot get smooth gameplay. I hope it is just the drivers. Other games play great so far. I also did notice stuttering on certain portions of 3dmark06 that, again, did not happen with 8800gts 320, although the overall score was much higher.

A single 9600GT is faster than the 3850 - no SLI needed to accomplish that...

I don't have UT3. I'm a big fan of UT, but I liked Bombing Run and they excluded it from the latest installment. I'm sure i'll pick it up sooner or later.

I do get some stuttering in BF2. It's very annoying when you're trying to fly jets. I blame it on the fact that it's probably overkill to run BF2 in SLi with 9600's.

But, as you said, my other games run great in SLi. I can crank up Half-Life Episode 2 and Portal...run them with 16xAA and 16XAF and average 100 FPS. I wish I could say the same for Crysis...but doesn't everybody?

Save your cash. The latest installment of UT sucks hard. I've been playing UT since the original Unreal, so I had a lot of faith when I plopped my cash down at the store. Then I realized I'd been had. I'll never send a dime to Epic again.

Me and my friends love UT3, we played it all last night :D Not really sure how you couldn't like UT3 if you liked UT2k4 though, they play damn close to the same. UT3 == UT2k4 + a whole bunch of pretty ;)

Just download the demo if you aren't sure if you'll like it.
