gf4 ti4400 or fx 5600
not overclocking either

my brothers card died and need a quick cheap replacement

is going dx 9.0 more futureproof...the person im buying it for... lets just say,,, there expecting to use this for more than a year or so to come..

what about a 9500 Pro ive read many reviews aying that the 9500pro is much better

Yes go with a 9500 pro possibility of softmod to 9700 pro and is better than 4400 and 5600 even without softmod.

ehh, sorry i would do it... but i dont wnna overclock it or flash it. he broke the other one he had(rosewill 9600but the sticker on the card says 9600SE but rosewill's site says they dont make SE's)http://www.rosewill.com/product/product.aspx?productId=17

... to make a long story short they blamed it on me cuz i built the pc.. so this is coming out of my pocket... something under $100... that can play BF2 with maybe low-med. settings
i had a Arctic cooler on it. and oc'ed it somewhat...i think when he broke it.. he messed up the Mobo, and the CPU.... after he was done with it they werent working...

i was looking on ebay for 9700pro.. whatsa reasonable price to pay for a used one... some of them wer going for 65-75$

with that said..should i buy something off ebay for cheap... maybe a 9700 pro

his system right now is screwed heh... but what he will have is

athlon xp 26-2800(not sure yet)
chaintech mother board
512mb pc3200 rosewill memory
maxtor 80gig 2mb cache 7200 rpm drive

Here to, got it back at Christmas for 86 bones. By the way if he broke the card I would tell him to go screw himself he shouldn't have been messing with it if he didn't know what he was doing.

If you can find a 9700 pro of ebay for under 100 go for it just be careful when buying off ebay a lot of 9700's are really softmod 9500's.

easier said then done.. they think if someone builds a computer, that if it breaks there the cause of the breaking...i explain to them..... dont leave the shit on all day... he moves the case around... things move... things happen... then no more computer...

there odd....

they buy 200$ computers from wal-mart thats why

Just get him a 9600 Pro, they are cheap now and they have no clue what the settings mean or do, it'll do BF2 decently.

Heh, I personally own a computer repair and custome build shop, but as a general rule I try to not work on family or friends computer whenever its possible. Because they always hold you to it the most and dont let it go if something happens. With a normal person its simply a buisness deal, but with family its always more, its just not good, lol.

Well that puts the 4400 out of the picture because they can't play battlefield 2 at all.

for the price of the 9600pro would the 5700LE be something to look int

Not until you try to run a Direct X 9 game with it.
I own a 5900xt and the only game I have trouble running on DX9 is HL2 and the only diffrence is the water. I also dont get the greatest frames in the carrier level of farcry. Other than that there arent many games that stress the PS2.0 (the problem) component of the card. I dont see how you guys can say "Get a GF4 the 5900's suck". The 5900's are faster than the GF4's at DX8 and you have the option to go DX9. If it ever gives me any problems (i.e. bad FPS) I can always disable PS2.0 in RivaTuner (I leave VS2.0 on).

I'm not saying to go GF4, no way that card is simply to old and soon it'll become simply unusable in a few games that are going to demand PS2.0. Which will cause the FX series of cards to lag behind.

Simply stated, in times when lots of PS2.0 is used (near future) then the FX series has troubles and is simply not worth its value, this is why a 9600 Pro is what I recommended, they're cheap these days and offer decent PS2.0 performance for their price.
