My head is gonna break , i really cant decide .....
I got i5 4590 , h87 mobo and 400W PSU (browse+ by be!quiet)

I cant decide between 960 vs 380 , reviews say that 380 is better ...
I can find the palit 960(2GB) for 210e while gigabyte 380 (4GB) costs 250e

Both are in my budget , but i am just looking something to hold it for 1year ....

Which one would you take ?

If there's a slight difference in performance then I'd go for 960 because of the lower power consumption and better drivers. And I'd do that especially if that's just for a year.

I'd personally go with a 7950/380. It will max 1080P out, and give you a fighting chance at 1440P. It's just a beefier card than the 960. The 960 and its 2GB ram will choke before you even max 1080P out in some games.

Unfortunately, the 7950/380 with a 400w unit is 'getting there'. The 7950/380 will push 200-250w easily when stressed. Given the rest of the system, i can't honestly recommend throwing a 7950/380 in there with safety in mind. I know you said you're running a 4590 (no overclocking), but even given the rest of your system pulling at most 100w, you're still not leaving a whole lot of breathing room for your PSU.

Max TDP with a 960 is ~120w, so it is going to be the 'best fit' given your overall hardware constraints here.

Well , perfomance depends , they might get the same FPS or the 380 might get like 5-10% more fps (which is not a huge jump .... i dont see the difference between 50fps vs 55fps)

Also the 960 is cooler , so this will give me an OC headroom , i have seen 1450 on core and 8000 on memory for 24/7 .... 380 is another rebrand , i dont think it can support much more OC

And last but not least .... 960 consumes 70W less .... which is a factor i should think in my case

(edit : which card might get benefited more from DX12 ? )

You would be pushing it with the 380 on the 400w psu, I'd say go with the 960 as you can get away with the 400w psu with that.

Try to find a used/refurb/b-stock/open-box 970. Chances are it will lose less value over the next 12 months than a 380 or 960.

wow , that would be a direct pick , BUT i am not from USA so .... the awesome newegg is out of reach

I was actually looking for a used 970 , but no1 sells them for some reason , they are extinct !!!!

(fire departement will come along with 290 my friend :p )

I found a 960 gigabyte 2X for 215euros , it has 2x6pin power connectors , but my psu has only 1x8pin .... i guess it will be fine to operate with one of them connected with molex to 6pin

While the 285/380 is a great card for the money, your PSU just isn’t strong enough.
Maybe initially you could do it (assuming the PSU is new), but as the PSU gets older it loses some of its max power.

Seeing as you’re not against used… how about a GTX 760? They start at about 120€ used and are about on par with the 960.
While the 960 is a nice card it’s also overpriced for what it offers (especially here in the EU).

My recommendations:
- Buy a new PSU and go the 285/380 route,
- buy a used 760,
- save a bit more and buy a 970.

Getting a new psu , would increase the total cost ... and since i wont hold it for long, its doesnt worth
Same for 970

760 is a good option , but wait ..... 950 i coming out ,.... its same as 760 and overclocked can reach 960 ....
Maybe iu should wait a little more for this product ?
