960 EVO RAID 0 Question

I got two 960 EVO's 250GB should I put them in RAID 0 or just use the second drive as storage? I really want to use it in a RAID 0 setup for that extra storage of 250GB and the obvious speed increase, but dont know if its necessary because of redundancy or a failed drive.

Thank You.

RAID 0 is, quite frankly, dumb for most anything but a scratch volume for transient/temporary files. You double your chances of a drive failure taking out your boot volume. Also, you'll see no real-world gain (and possibly, the chipset's fakeRAID might actually slow things down).

If possible, return the 2 250 GB drives for a single 500 GB unit. Generally, the larger an SSD's capacity the faster it is and the greater its wear rating. Also, you won't have to worry about juggling files between two volumes.

If its not possible to return the SSD's could I just use the other drive to install games on or whatever?

What would you rather have? Games loading a few seconds quicker or 250gb of extra space?

RAID 0 he would still have the same amount of space, just increased risk of drive failure (however small that might be) :-D

2x 250 in RAID 0 = 500gb of space
2x 250 drives in normal sata = 500 gb of space

Are you thinking RAID 1 or some other setup where the space goes down?

I was for some reason, totally blanked there, my bad.

For certain types of I/O loads, a RAID-0 might feel slightly snappier than a single drive.
But, for most gaming/desktop/workstation uses, you'll never, EVER notice it.

Especially with the speed modern SSDs are capable of.
