So my 955 Deneb needs a little push, stock running at 3.2GHz, I didnt get into alot of OC options with my BIOS, but I did try an auto overclock function on the bios which did a 5% push to 3.35 and its running very smooth. Still at 45C with the H50 temp wise under full load, not bad.

So, what should I go for OC wise, what mp's and whatnot. Any ideas? Motherboard for reference is a ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO

well its a black edition processor so that makes it much easier to overclock.. since you are running an H50.. i would say try bumping the cpu voltage to 1.45v then bump the multiplier from 16x to 18x which will give you 3.6ghz then run intel burn test for about 10 runs.. make sure its stable.. check your temps.. then try bumping it to 19x with the 1.45v which will give you 3.8ghz.. most likely it wont be stable but its worth trying.. if your temps look good with the voltage at 1.45v (under 60C) then try bumping the voltage to 1.48v with the multiplier at 19x.. if you have a 955 C3 stepping you could probably do 3.8ghz some where between 1.45v and 1.5v if its a C2 stepping then you might have to go a little over 1.5v to keep it stable for running A3 WU's..

the safe voltage max is 1.55v the thermal temp on the 955 is 62C.

other then changing the cpu multiplier and cpu voltage you shouldnt have to mess with anything else unless you really want to..

I suspect that you should be able to hit anywhere between 3.6 - 3.8ghz just fine from what i've seen with others overclocking these 955/965's. I'm not taking mine past 3.5ghz as the stock cooler gets so incredibly loud and starts to sound like a leaf blower.

lol go spend 30-40 bucks and get an s1283 heatsink.. should easily hit 3.8ghz.. hell you can probably find a sunbeam core contact for less then 30 bucks and its about on par with the s1283 on AMD processors..

With the h50 mine just hit 3.82 at 18 MP and 1.45v

Except I cant seem to download any cores for some reason.

With the h50 mine just hit 3.82 at 18 MP and 1.45v

Not bad..... Its running smooth and Burn In turned up nothing. I went ahead and started up F@H, lets see how she goes (OH and 55C under load)

wow if its stable at 1.45v i highly recommend trying to take it up higher.. you should be able to hold 3.9-4ghz.. some where near 1.5v maybe a tad higher..

if you need the core let me know and ill just upload it some where for you..

Its downloading the core fine, it just cant seem to open it.

lol go spend 30-40 bucks and get an s1283 heatsink.. should easily hit 3.8ghz.. hell you can probably find a sunbeam core contact for less then 30 bucks and its about on par with the s1283 on AMD processors..

I thought about pulling out the stops and going with a Noctua NHD-14, but realized it would be a waste of money since the gaming rig wouldn't be folding very often. My gaming rig is primarily brought online to play games, and games don't get these cpus very hot anyway. The stock cooler works well, just the noise is obnoxious as I can hear it running from downstairs when it spins past 5000rpms.

I have been considering switching to a H50, or even just picking up a Koolance block to work with my EXOS that is just sitting here...I would then have a nice TT120 with a custom bracket I'd be willing to let go cheeeeap for a fellow F@H'er :)

Thanks for the offer, but the TT120 would not fit as I am using all 4 ram slots on my motherboard. The only cpu coolers I am aware of that allow you to use all 4 slots are the Noctua ND-H14, NHD-12 SE2, and possibly the Coolermaster V8 :(

I'd be surprised..I have filled all 4 of my ram slots (MB in sig) with Corsair Dominator and they clear just fine...you just have to remove DIMMs 2-3 before you can remove the one closest to the cpu socket...

Ive got a 955, 1.4v @ 3709mhz, Cooled with a Freezer 7 rev 2 in a fractal r2 with all the fan mounts full of fractal fans bar the bottom intake by the psu..
running linx 0.6.4 at the moment as its the hottest day of the year, and its getting as high as 69c :( been dropping the cpu voltage, as started at 1.45, so the voltage drop has gained me 1c at max, it flucturates, but I cant see it throttle like I have done in the past, just the load flucturates instead. Any other ideas how I can get it to run a bit cooler? Already using AS5 on it as well. Disabled cool and quiet and all the fan control options in the bios already

Considering a H50 for it sometime in the future now...

darn if you had said this 3 weeks ago id be all over it but now that im planning to move i cant spend anymore money :(
