To the left of the sofa we have my precious, the slowly but steady growing DVD collection... Another seven or eight films and another bookcase is needed.[/QUOTE]

Someones a Buffy fan. :p

Impressive DVD collection!
I see the extended edition LOTR film boxes, but do you have the awesome cover that all 3 of the boxes go into? Doesn't look like it...

Nice hardware you've got, and the dual core means you can rip a movie to your harddrive while watching another one? ;)

You will not be disappointed by the Pentium D. I love mine. And it is blazing fast ;)

cheap quiet watercooling? im thinking coolermeaster aquagate mine r120... put the fan on a fanmate or something and use that :D works well according to reviews :D not sure about the quiet factor but you can always change the fan :D

210W is that a P-D rating? :O i dont understand how air coolers can cope with that considering most watercoolers struggle with stuff belwo that... (crazily overclocked A64's and the like)

air would be fine for the hard drives i would think... quiet 120mm fans i think would do the job nicely...

how do you like the LC17 silverstone? i'm fucking in love with the LC14, although i didn't get the version that includes the VFD and remote. gonna take care of that myself with some mods down the road.

I think your next project might need to be something to hide/pretty up that linksys WAP you got sitting on top of the TV... Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

This looks like it will turn out nicely, Silverstone pwns at HTPC cases.

So glad the forums are back >_< I've been bored all day so I lapped my waterblock lmao.

You just need to move the shwlves closer together and you can probably get one more row. :D Maybe 2.

That can be the next mod...[H]ard shelving.

No doubt. If/when I ever get the time/money to start my scratchbuild project, a vertical mounted power supply is one of the things that is going to be a must in my design. With fan setups in most cases these days, there's no reason to involve the PS. Pull fresh air from a vent in the side. and exhaust it to the back. That air never hits the rest of the case. I realize that that's a bit different than your deployment, but it still aids in the quest to keep things cool.

How's progress on this mod? I'm excited to see what you do with this HTPC and the LC17 case :)

That is how our DVD collection started. About 3 years ago we gave away 700 VHS to my sister and started our DVD collection...we have a few (two more short shelves not pictured):

Whats the point? My wife and I buy a DVD here and there, and half of them we have not watched since we bought them. However, if I had them all stored on an accessible PC, and didn't have to get off my butt to put them in, I might be more likely to watch them a little more often.

But then again, we have a somewhat active lifestyle between school, and work; at least I do, not sure what the hell she does all the time, lol.

I didn't get the LOTR boxes at once so no special cover. I normally don't keep the multi disc covers anyway since they mess up the formatting in the bookshelf.
For those that purchased the LOTR extended editions as they came out, instead of in the collector's box, they included a certificate in the Return of the King for a free box to hold all three.

I think it cost me $3 shipping, and can be done easily through their website. Check inside the box if you didn't already throw away the "inserts" that came with it.

Where did that Anemone-like face cover come from? did you make it before you started this log? *edit: I just visited your site, forget I asked ;)

There is something about having the water lines run between the HTPC and an external resevoir that makes me un-easy. What will happen if someone tries to move the stand where you have the electronics and the lines get pulled too hard?

Oops, I got sidetracked by a really good book but now 950 pages later
what book?

and are you planning to increase the storage space in the machine?

the black knight always triumphs!

Yes, it will be 8 x 200GB drives for some decent performance with the Raidcore controller. :D

The book is Judas Unchained by Peter F Hamilton, the second and final part of the series started with Pandora's Star.

<OOC> Why is Tranquility gowing veggies? is it not in use anymore? </OOC>

Kicking HDD holders!! It is all copper, right? it looked like wood in one of the pics. Will you use a grommet/sealant between the parts or just JBWeld? will you make any grooves on the channel to increase the contact surface with the water? Really cool & ingenious, id like to know more.

Those HDD cooling blocks are the most radical mod for cooling I've seen yet, keep up the innovative style, and I'll keep watching to get ideas for a future build of my own...

Nice. how much did all that copper (and labour) set you back?

xD It seems more people are interested in the DVD collection than the actual mod. ;)

How much difference in temperatures do you expect your side mount drive coolers to generate relative to the top mounts that are around?

I'm not sure that those HDD coolers are gonna work... I thought the heat left the top and bottom rather than the sides? I may be wrong, normally am, so NO FLAMING!

but in either case.. neat idea.

If you touch the sides of a HD that has been working hard recently, the sides will be scorchio hot. Note, that this won't be the case if your (ahem) case is made of metal and comes into contact with the drives (the case will be conducting heat away). Also, many of the latest SATA disks have heatsink-style fins on them (though they're chunkier than traditional hsf fins). Finally, you can get commercial watercooling for hard disks that cool the sides of drives.

This is looking good as ever mashie! One to watch.

HDDs cases are usually made of metal, ie. conduct heat pretty well. If the sides of the HDD is cooled, conduction will help reduce the overall temperature.

ok.. that works for meeeee! just one other question... does that copper make the case heavier?
