9500pro -> 9700 pro scam?

I was looking for 9700 pro's on ebay and here comes an auction of a guy trying to sell a 9500pro which he claims is bios modded to a 9700pro...

Now looking at his card, I notice the memory is in the I shaped format, thus it only has the 128 bit bus... and second, i didn't think you could flash the 9500 pro into anything anyway, just the plain old 9500 and the 9800 SE.

So is this a scam?

I'm not planning on bidding or anything, just wondering.

EDIT: his english is not very good, but I'm not implying anything by that

yeah the "I" memory only has a 4 layer PCB IIRC. It takes a 6 layer "L" to make a 9500-9700 pro
 
As far as I know, you are correct. Only the 9500NPs with the L-shaped RAM configuration could be flashed into 9700s.

I think he is referring to the fact that all R300s except the 97Pro had their frequencies locked in BIOS.
 
i thought r9500pros could only be flashed into 9700 non-pro.

so then with the R300 core you couldn't overclock unless it was flashed to the 97pro bios?

Edit: 9500Pro can't be flashed into anything else. It already has eight pipes enabled, and you can't flash a 128-bit memory bus into 256-bits. The basic 9500 128MB could be flashed into a 9700-class card, since it only needed its four pipes reenabled. The 256-bit bus was already there.
(Interesting that theoretically, the 9500 could have beaten the Pro in bandwidth-sensitive tests!)
