9500 Pro Upgrade options?

I've had my 9500 Pro for a while now, and haven't really kept up with vid cards in quite some time. I figure it's about time to upgrade with the newer crop of games coming out, and frame rates starting to drop...

I realize I'm apparently 2 or 3 generations behind on vid cards, if not more, what with 9800 pros/SE/XT, X800, 800X and all sorts of other number/letter combos in between. :D

What's the best route to go for between $150 - $200? AGP card
Is there anything in the lines that followed that I should really avoid?
 
In that range I would try to find a Geforce 6600GT, but the problem is retailers gouge the prices up to $220+ depending on where you buy one.
 
I would actually agree with the 6600gt or 6800nu, my brother just got a 6600gt for xmas, and it's pretty sweet... runs HL2 like a champ.
 
6600gt agp...or wouldnt it be nice to run SLI somewhere down the line? Maybe, if you can afford it go for a new mobo/proc and get a 6600gt pci

I'm in the same boat. with the help of Warp 11's OC BIOS i got my 9500 Pro to 330/330 OC but I cant play BF: Vietnam on 1024 X 768 with all the eye candy on without it affecting my game. When you have to start backing down sliders to keep your rates you know it's time to upgrade. I must say that for the 200 bucks I spent on the 9500 around 2 years ago now it was and still is the best bang for the buck I've had from computing in a long time. It STILL can keep up with 90% of the games out there @ 330 Mhz core and memory and thats saying a lot for a 2 year old video card.

If ATi does not answer the SLI from nVidia with something as compelling and effective I may go that way. That new dual GPU board from Gigabyte got my attention. :D
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I haven't even really looked at nvidia since the Geforce 2, and really got quite a bit of milage out of my 9500 Pro. Looks like I'll have to switch sides again ;)
 
Nvidia -finally- has a product that can beat the 9800 Pro at about the same price in the 6600 GT, and since 9800 Pros are now running over $200, there is unfortunatley no reason on Earth to not get the 6600 GT instead. Where did all those sub-$200 9800 Pro deals go, back when the 9800 Pro made the entire FX line look stupid? Now that nVidia has a faster product, the cheap deals on the 9800 Pro have gone away?

Hah, I never did look at it that way. Guess ATI thought that the 9800 Pros were going to start selling very quickly?
