which one is better? because usually i think a 9500 pro still costs more.. and 8 pipelines sounds a lot better then 4.. what do you think or know?

performance = same, dx9 = 9600xt winning, price = 9600xt wins, power consumption/cords required = 9600xt wins.

good luck.

ATI RADEON 9500 PRO

ATI RADEON 9600XT

RV360 Core
128-bit Memory Interface (4x32?????)
2.00GTexels/Sec Peak Fill Rate

128MB DDR
No External Power Supply required, HyperZ III+, SMOOTHVISION 2.1, 8:1 Lossless Z-Buffer Compression

Not sure about the memory controller crossbar or not..........

IMO the 9500 pro is more powerful when overclocked vs the 9600xt when it is overclocked.

They bench about the same. Read the Tyan Radeon 9800 Pro review at [H]ardOCP. The two cards in question are benchmarked there.

I'd go for the XT. Cheaper, runs cooler, no extra power needed, plus you get a HL2 coupon.

pipes are only a part of the equation. they come out about even because the 9600XT is clocked at nearly twice the frequency of the 9500 pro

kind of toss up with current selection of games out right now ...but the xt is a bit more future proof I would think

DUDE 8 PIPELINES = 4 TIMES 2

THERFORE 9500 PRO IS EXACTLY TWICE AS AWESOME AS THE 9600 XT

ITS SIMPLE MATH, MORON

I have the 9500-Pro, flashed with the warp11 bios. I also built a PC with a 9600-Pro for my bro. When comparing benchmarks, 9500-Pro won. The 9600-pro is good value, but visually I prefer the 9500-Pro.

9600XT...they overclock very well and at stock speeds will beat a 9500 Pro at pretty much any DX9 games. Also, you'll get a HL2 coupon.

For the guy who said "Simple math...moron". A 500mhz core can do wonders compared to a 275 mhz one. Of course we all know clockspeed isn't everything, but in this case it is.

Go for the 9500 Pro if you can find one that can be modded to a 256bit bus spec. Then you'll be pretty much looking at having a 9700 pro.

God that's living dangerously calling a mod a moron lmfao:eek: :p

Yes the 9500 was a bloody awsome card but i would still have to say go the 9600Xt now as it's go abit more going for it:p

lmao. I hope hes joking.

The 9500pro and 9600XT are about the same in terms of performce the difference is not off buy much. Nothing that you can notice anyway. Put in the HL2 coupon and 9600XT is the winner.

The 9500pro CANNOT be modded to a 256bit bus spec.
I think your confusing the 9500 non-pro with the 9500pro.

XT = crap. Get 9700 pro or 5900NU.
Negative. XT = lower performance on nVidia cards of the same series. XT = higher performance on Radeons of the same series.

The XT is several steps behind the 9700Pro, not by a great bit but good enough I guess. I'd rather get a 9700Pro then an 9600XT.

It depends on your price range. If you're looking to spend $150-$170, then get the XT. If you're looking to spend around $200, go for the Radeon 9700 Pro.

No, they are about equal.

Let's do some math:

9500 Pro:

8 pipelines @ 275 Mhz
540mhz RAM @ 128 bit bus

9600XT:

4 pipelines @ 500mhz = 8 pipelines @ 250mhz (approx)

600mhz RAM @ 128bit bus

The 9600XT is comparable to a Radeon 9500 Pro clocked at 250/600 as opposed to the 275/540. The 9600XT also has newer optimizations that the 9500 Pro doesn't have

Read this review. Both cards are included in the benchmarks, and they perform about the same.

I vote for the 9600XT because it's cheaper, newer, runs cooler, draws less power, and comes with a HL2 coupon.

wait a moment? I thought the bit count went by how many chips were on the board? Taking the 9200 se with 64 bit ram bw, 2 chips = 1 chip = 32 bit b/w, and 9200 regular @ 128 bits with 4 chips = 4 x 32 bits? I dunno, I just took a scientific wild ass guess on that one... Someone inform me please.

I dont understand how you say the 9600xt has a dx9 advantage over the 9500 pro, show me any proof of this, basicly i see as they both have the same preformance and the reason they halfed the 9500s pipelines is because it was cutting into the 9700s market since performance wasnt too far off.

It depends on the situation in dx9 games. Because the XT has such a clockspeed advantage over the 9500pro, oftentimes in games that use lots of shaders the advantage will go to the XT

You can pick up a 9600xt for about $130 right now at compusa.com with 10% off and instant rebate its a visiontek. It's replacing my servers Gainward Ti 4600. Yes I know no imporvement in dx8 but dx9 it will. I bought it for half-life 2 primarly. Canceled my Hl2 order that came to $55 so card only came out to about $80.

I guess that might be why that account was banned... somebody's sarcasm detector is broken!

Digital Viper-X-...here's the difference between the two cards that allows the 9600XT to have a slight advantage over the 9500 Pro.

9500 Pro

HYPER Z™ III
SMARTSHADER™ 2.0

9600XT

HYPER Z™ III+
SMARTSHADER™ 2.1

As someone already stated, in heavily pixel shaded games the clock speed advantage and extra optimizations will beat the 9500 PRO. Not by much, but it will.
