Only reason I'm asking is my assumptions that SE might be a cut back version of the 9200 like MX was to NVIDIA. Is this true? Even if, witch has better performance?

Retail ATi Radeon 8500
Retail Gigabyte Radeon 9200 SE

Hey I just got a refurb 9200 128 off newegg, and i'm very happy with it ($42 shipped)

:)

Neither card is really worth consideration any more though...

I tried using my 8500 to play BFV on my tertiary computer, it was a painful experience.

If you have to choose between those two, definitely get the 8500.

8500 destroys the 9200se. the 9200se is one of the worst cards ATI has ever put out!

The 9200 has its place because it does have tv out in most cases, and its fine for light gaming. No its not going to compete with a 9800xt but that isnt what it was designed for.

a real 9200 is the same as the 8500 i think.

my friend just ordered a 9200 from newegg and he thinks he has agp 2x.
will the 8x agp work in the 2x slot?

i dont think 8x/4x cards will fit in a 2x slot. but im not certain about it.

how can my friend check if he has a 2x and not 4x agp?
EDIT: newegg says: BUS: AGP 1X/2X/4X/8X

What does that mean?

It depends on The AGP slot version if its the older 3.3 v AGP none of the new cards will work on it.

AGP 1X/2X/4X/8X means that those transfer speeds are supported by the card, but if the card wont fit in your mobo if the AGP slot is of the old kind 3.3v, it does not make sense. BTW if your pal has P3 with 815e or higher or AMD Duron the card will work just fine as all the motheboard built at that time onwards were AGP 1.5v standards.

That's the 9100.

the regular nonse 9200/9000/8500 dont differant drastically in performance. The 9100 was a bit short lived (kinda like the 9200) I dont know why they keep making low end parts slower.

For OEM's like dell and HP who need really cheap and sucky parts to put into $350 computers.
