........friend brought me a computer to check out. Appears to boot up with all fans and lights running. The ati 9200 le video card doesn't have a fan and there is no video. This is a AGP slot and the only AGP card I have is a X800XL. The computer is a HP media center with a P4 3.0 ghtz and probably a 200 watt PS. Could I just boot the computer with this card to see if the old video card is dead and not blow out anything.

try to boot the system with your other card, if it works, you know it is dead.
 
It should be fine. The 9200 LE was an AGP 8x card as is the x800xl. You may have to plug in a power cable to the x800xl though.
 
Thanks guys.I forgot to plug in the power cable the first time. Even after plugging in the power cable still no video. I guess the agp slot may be bad.
 
id blame the PSU.. being that its a p4 3ghz the psu im guessing is at least 3-4 years old and being a generic 200w psu its probably lost about 50% of its power due to aging cap's/hardware.. if you have a psu laying around that you can throw into it.. even if its insanely overpowered for the system you may want to try that first before saying its the AGP slot.. though the old HP media center PC's are notorious for having motherboards and hard drives dying on them..
 
I hooked a 550 watt PS to it. Lights and fans start running but still no video.
