yeah it sucks that blue leds cost so much...blue is my fav :(

Also, any possibility of having that with an aluminum faceplate, it would go a whole lot better with most peoples cases if it utilized a brushed aluminum faceplate.

can you sell it with out the LEDs and case for a reduced cost? like just the PCB and micros? maybe $40?

going with a green/yellow/red multicolor led set up would be pretty cool too, like 60% and below are green, 60-80% are yellow and 80-100% is red. Kinda like a sound boards.

That would be cool for a couple of the patterns that thing will display. But it wouldn't look that good for any of the reversed or inverted displays. I'd say stick with single color, maybe offer a version with no LEDs soldiered like the DragonMods thingie I've seen.

The only thing I'd do different might be to cover the entire front panel with very tinted plexi so that you couldn't actually see any of the LEDs unless they were lit up. Would make it look a little more organic IMO.

Of course, after you start selling them and I buy one, I'll just mod it that way anyway. ;)
 
cool stuff gj on it and gl with sales.. 90 is really expensive for something like that, I don't think it's worth the price.. maybe like 50 is more reasonable.. and for the love of god, roxette is the worst music in history..makes me very sad that people actually listen to that! lol but hey, that's just IMHO :)
 
Ok my question, is will you have diffrent patterns? as in not just that circle with lines? not saying it isnt cool, but from that one pic you posted it seems as if not all of the 2 bays will be filled with it......just curious if you have any other pattern ideas in mind........ive always wanted a regular one that looks like old skool equ with red/yellow/orange leds :p

edit another question, any way of them being made from aluminum? and cut out just those lines for the leds? to match cases and such

Sell it wht through-holes for T1's, but don't include the LEDs. I'd pay about $35 for a kit like that. Maybe even make it so NONE of the components are soldered. Just a board, an IC or 2, and the supporting components. And of course make the bay cover optional.

Heh, I guess great minds think alike: right after I posted my reply about splitting the colors you posted the exact same thing, then you point out that you'd already looked for dark tint.

Just wish I had the technical expertise to build that myself (hell, I can't even figure out how to wire a dual relay so that I can use a momentary switch as a latching switch).

Actually I've already got a mod planned for it using guage cluster accents off a Chrylser 300m's instrument panel. Can't wait...

I'm interested. I do think the $90 price point may be a bit high especially since the majority of people who'd be purchasing them will have some understanding of electronics and could (and probably will) mod it anway.

I'd say sell it complete for $90, sell a somewhat DIY version for less. I've noticed that people will actually spend $60 on something that they know they'll need to spend $40 to mod to their liking before they spend $90 on ready built. It's the whole sticker shock thing.

You may be able to make more money on them selling the DIY kits considering the amount of money you'd save on LEDs (unless you're buying in huge bulk) and would probably sell more and save yourself what looks to be about 200 solder points.

Heh... you know Mashie, I was planning on writing you a PM today after reading through this month's copy of PCExtreme and following a couple of the links in the "Bring On The Bling" article which took me to Kustom PCs. Saw the pre-order there and was going to write to ask if you had a US distributor yet.

My original plan for the MDVA has changed now and I'm not sure if it will still work with the build I'm working on but I still REALLY want to get one at some point.

One question though... as I said before I plan to mod the heck out of it... but how deep is it? Circuit board, capacitors, LED height, Front panel, etc. Not really interested in how deep it is with the side retention tabs because I think those are going to end up being taken off if I find a way to do what I'm thinking about doing (if I use it for the current build).
 
As answered on the product web page, it has an analog line-level input via 3.5 mm (1/8") "headphone jack".

Thanks, yeah I saw that after I posted the question and deleted it probably right as you were clicking the "submit reply" button. Thanks. :p

Might have to get a schematic for my soundblaster to find which of the front panel port pins could be made to be used.
