Just a few quick questions. I am currently experiencing heat woes with my new 4600+ I recently "re-applied" the AS5 and used 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean off the old grease. Now my first question is, can I do any damage using a q-tip and 91% to the heatspreader? The reason I ask is because I noticed some "mirror" type spots on the heatspreader. My second question is, can AS5 expire or go bad? I keep it in a ziplock bag and store it in a cool dry place.

91% isopropyl alcohol is ONLY alcohol and water (look at the labels and combine the "active" and "inactive" ingredients). No that won't hard the metal heatspreader.

According to Arctic Silver the only thing that happens with age is it might settle a little.

keep as5 as long as you like, it doesnt come w/ an experition date.
no it wont damage anything except u wash the cpu pins w/ alcohol and plug it in the mobo wet.

I like to keep my AS5 "applicator tip down" as it seperates after about a month of lying flat... Nothing a quick flick of the wrist won't fix.

i think q-tips have a larger chance of leaving some of the cotton fiber there as opposed to something lint free like coffee filters. i like using q-tips to get the majority of AS5 off then finish whatever is left with a lint free cloth.

i think 91% isopropyl alcohol is probably good enough but you may want to give 99% isopropyl alcohol a try too.

99% is better than 91%. I used 50% for years and it works fine. I just wiped it off with some of those nailpolish remover pads... Eh, cotton fibers are visible, just blow off the CPU IHS when it's dry.

99% dries superfast and smells aweful ;).
