Curious what 9070XT owners are seeing reported in HWInfo for power consumption? I just got a 9070XT last week paired with a 5900x and a couple things surprised me. One was just how well the card performs, other was reported power consumption figured from HWInfo. I'm also confused by the difference between Total Board Power and GPU Power Maximum. The TBP numbers are pretty much exactly what I would expect from this card, but the GPU power maximum is quite a bit higher. I started logging just before entering a Black Ops 7 multiplayer match and took a screenshot just after it ended. The average GPU Power Maximum for that round was 438 watts.

I'm not complaining or looking for any sort of "fix" or ways to reduce power, i'm just curious what others are seeing. This is a Gigabyte Gaming OC with 3x8pin power connectors.

Some others reported similar. Basically the GPU Total Board Power is showing the absolute max spikes. Since the 8pins are all designed to take at min 150w, and the PCI mobo can handle min 75w, the 540w total max spike is within region of being ok especially since it’s a spike and not an average /long delivery

Yeah, I read that thread before posting, it's just odd because the first column which shows the realtime usage, it's pretty much consistently around 500 watts while gaming

Again, those are spikes. And HWInfos “first column” is “current” NOT realtime. The polling /sampling rate is about every 2s, so it’s hardly realtime.

It would help if HWinfo had the ability to show a max spike graph for each 8 pin along with the pcie with tighter polling/sampling but that would involve a lot more processing power and system resources.

Again, think this is mostly a useless reading for the card. Better off going with the (TBP) row instead of the Max one if determining actual usage
 
I tested a 9070 XT Reaper, recently.

With 0.03 undervolt and -10% on power: it would max out in the 270's for wattage (using AMD's own overlay). Full performance.
 
yup, thats the spike, the max it ever caught. my 9070 does the same thing.

this is why ATX 3.0/3.1 require the PSU to be able to momentarily produce twice its maximum rated output.
yup. also why i always say to use at least the min recommended psu and not what some online wattage calculator says.
