We are 5 days from the end of the month and the 9.1's have not shown. What is up with this? Are we skipping 9.1? Did AMD/ATI just decide that we complain so much about their drivers that they would just give up?? (Sarcasm).

Really though, I am surprised we have not heard anything from ATI, not a delay, nothing.

For anyone who is coming in here to read about 9.1, run away. This thread has gone to a Windows 7 / Vista discussion.
 
If we skipped a month and got some drivers in Feb that blow away all our expectations with regards to performance and functionality, I think I could live with that.
 
apparently so lol. I've been checking ati.com crazily lately with hopes that that 8.12 number is replaced with a 9.1 :p but it never is :(
 
You could live with that, but I bet all the 4850x2 buyers are refreshing the Ati website waiting for a release.
 
Well as far as I know they've never said they would release one driver a month, sticking to such a timeframe will result in being forced to release poor quality drivers and what the community really needs is some good quality drivers.

would be nice, but what i am waiting for is promised double digit percentage bumps in several games. and enabled sideport (righty right)
 
8.12 was ugly, Win7 betas are suffering from beta-syndrome (but then again, they should), need fresh meat. I'm told they're fixing critical stuff, or something with AVIVO, so I won't hold it against them if we get an early February release. Get things into shape before getting that first release of the new year out.

Correct. They promised 12 releases a year. Not a release a month. But so far they have always delivered a set of drivers every month. Normally it is on a Wednesday. So I'm betting this Wednesday personally. ;)
 
Windows 7...damn...just when vista started feeling like a good performer, they go and release a
windows 7. And let me guess, there will be directx 12 that will only be compatible on windows 7...or some other BS of that nature.
 
I wonder if these drivers will finally enable the sideport feature on the 4850x2...

Nope, never heard of windows 7.

Edit: Alright, so it's a beta OS that you can download for free it seems. If I download windows 7 and install it, does this mean I won't ever have to purchase it and I'll always be able to download updates for it?

Doubt that, I'm just starting to like Vista. The only reason I made the jump to vista was directx 10 compatibility. I don't see myself upgrading to windows 7 unless there truly is a significant performance increase.
 
I could live with the 8.12's for a while longer...no problems here. Hopefully the 9.2's (if they don't skip those) will be twice as good.

a.) Windows 7 FULLY supports dx10 out of the gate, as well as backwards compatibility, DX11, etc.

b.) Windows 7 is faster than Vista in EVERY way.

C.) Windows 7 is more stable than vista

d.) Windows 7 is backwards compatible with drivers (all my drivers for vista worked)

e.) Windows 7 doesn't take a lifetime to boot up

You Getting the picture yet?

It's still probably a while a way. I bet it doesn't see the light of day until at least 2010.
 
how is gaming on windows 7 any ways? are there a lot of driver issues? i doubt i'll find drivers for my printer on windows 7...

Less than you'd think, as the Sapphire 8.12s work well. But it'd be nice to get some performance bumps.

the beta is up on 8/1/09. you would have to figure the release will be just about then. vista was a loser for ms, got bad press, got ms involved in that huge "vista compatible" lawsuit. they want it behind them asap. i have been using v64 for a couple years. its been ok by me.

I said approx 12 months, When I look at my calendar it says that would be 2010 ;).

It COULD see the light of day end of this year, but I won't get my hopes up. I am expecting a Q1 2010 release.

Not sure what you mean. You are an exception to my opinion of Win 7 Vs. Vista? Or are you another user that plans to use XP 4 life?

All of my games run great on Windows 7. The only problem is that punkbuster won't work and there isn't a fix for that anytime soon.

I have had no driver issues. Ceative x-fi drivers need to be installed in vista compatability mode. I have installed drivers for my Nividia gtx280 and my ATi 4870x2 with no problems.
 
Did installing your X-Fi drivers add significantly to boot times?

Don't worry Windows 7 in reality is Vista with more drivers than ever thrown in , and a few icons/folders renamed or placed somewhere else.

It's more of marketing to get SP2 under diffrent name then real OS change.

no, it is BETA OS, once it is final your beta expires and you have to go buy it, like all past MS OS and publi beta testing releases.

Windows 7 = Vista with the fat trimmed off, so that is why the beta is so stable and personally, Vista has been rock solid stable for me, most people who have problems install non signed drivers or the wrong drivers or bad drivers from the companies of their hardware.

I agree completely (among the id10t problem), Vista is great. I am able to trim the fat myself for the most part and Vista runs fantastic. I tried going back to XP and that lasted all of 20 minutes and I have been with Vista since.

Windows 7 is fantastic though, I can't wait for final. The only reason I haven't fully switched is because of the very few and minimal pieces of software that are not quite ready for Win7, but I would bet most if not all Vista software/drivers/etc... will work 100% when Win7 is launched.

I know its going to have DX11 but I don't know if its going to be exclusive to Windows 7. Does anybody know?

I would be surprised if DX11 is not exclusive to Windows 7.

And what's with the complaints about Vista's boot time? Vista Home Premium boots in 12 seconds after POST for me.
 
They said that dx11 will be for Win7 and Vista. Dx 11 will show up as normal for 7 and an update for Vista.

4tl. Nothing wrong with XP, it WAS a great OS. But come on, do you seriously plan to stay with outdated software forever? Not to mention a piece as crucial as the OS?

If your computer is slightly dated and can't handle Vista, Ok. Maybe time to consider an update, but given the economy... Ok once again. If your dated hardware and XP serve your purpose, fantastic.

But if you have a rig well capable of Vista and run XP, you are just in denial/obsession.
