well i got the asus EN8800gtx a month or so ago ..
i got really bad performance with it ..
playing fear at 1680x1050 with 8aa/16af and no soft shadows = choppy performance.
i'm getting mostly high fps (i do drop to teens in oblivion) but all my games run real choppy .. all of em .
i guess it could have something to do with the rest of my pc (e6600,bad axe2,crucial ballistix 800) but i was just expecting more out of my card ..

anyways .. thats not the worst problem i'm facing ..
i keep getting bsod's when playing videos .. i cant figure out whats causing it .. i thoght this problem was only happening when i'm playing a video on my tv (through s-video) and then i double click another video and i get a bsod .
but now its happening when i'm just set on my monitor .. i can be using my pc for 2-3-4 hours and no problems .. and sometimes its within 10 minutes ..
i've also noticed this happend twice when i was gaming .. (well twice since i formatted and got the latest driver release ..before that i use to crash all the time in games)
i've also checked for the bad transistor thing .. i got a good card.

i really dont know what to do now .. any suggestions ?
(runing xp sp2 btw)

All my games are causing problems since i installed my 8800GTX
System specs are
Antec TPII480
AM2 4200 X2
2GB OCZ Platinum PC6400
MSI K9A

I'm only running 2 harddrives and 2 optical drives off the PSU so i really don't think its that considering my system ran fine with my other graphics cards
(6800->7800GTX->X1900XTX)

Now what i still have to try is to run driver cleaner on my system and remove all traces of drivers and then install the card again.
Anyone got any other suggestions?

yet another [H]ardForum Miracle ! :)

forgot to mention it but i've got a antec truepower 2.0 550w ... and running 2 hd's and 1 optical drive .. so power shouldnt be the issue

could it be a ram issue?
maybe check your voltage and timings, or run mem test.
its seems to happen whenever you 'push' your machine a bit
so it may not be the GPU

well .. before i got my crucial off ebay i had some samsung promos in there and i still had the problem ... i'm running everything on stock speeds from day one . never overclocked .

still think i should try running memtest ? if so, you got any other tests i should look into ?
thnx

I would run memtest if you think it is a memory issue, i personally think after reading multiple posts in a row would check YOUR power supply, with a multimeter if you have it. Good luck keep me updated.

a 550w antec (that claims to be sli ready) isnt enough ?

crap .. back to the shop then .. i guess
got any psu's to recommend ?

thnx for the help guys

i think i'm gonna get something a bit more future proff than a 620w

how do the following stack up :
BFG 800W SILENT PSU Quad 12V Rails
BFG 1000W SILENT PSU Quad 12V Rails
THERMALTAKE THOUGHPOWER 850W

I went with what is recommeneded (pardon spelling) on this forum ...A pc power&cooling 750 quad nvidia certified to run 2 8800 gtx's...there aren't many psu's with enough grunt to run a single 8800 gts..The 8800 gts calls for 26amp on the 12 volt rail just to run the card...hope this helps Iceman

Hmm..
I'm using a seasonic 500w psu with out any problems
8800gtx
2 optical
3 hd

if you're getting high fps but choppiness.. it sounds like the video card is problematic.

so...should i rma the card ?
i've been reading up and it looks like alot of people are getting bsod's with this card ..
in a similar thread someone mentioned "i bet your sound is crackling too" ..and mine is !
ever since i put this pc togeher with the 8800 in, the sounds been going crazy .. i use to have a x1900xt in the same setup and the sound was fine ..

i'm also using audigy sound card and a tv tuner card on my setup.

is your audio on the mobo or pci? have you tried updating the audio drivers?

I don't know if this is related but back when I upgraded to a 7800GT, I had performance issues.. game crashes and choppy performance but no bsod. I was able to fix the crashes by updating the audio drivers (a suggestion I found on google).. I eventually replaced it with the audigy because the game performance was still poor.

I can't say this is a fix for you but if you have anyone with a sound card you can borrow, I would go that route. If not, then call the video card manufacturer and see if they can help you troubleshoot it.

well i'm using the onboard soundcard on the bad axe 2, i have been having issues with it and i'm just getting ready to get a creative extreme music + logitech z-5500 ... hope that will help ..
(just thoght i'd mention it, my games never crash to desktop, i get a bsod and reset)

the bsod didn't give you any hints? If it reboots too fast, you can set it so the pc doesn't reboot automatically after bsod. It's under your System Properties in Startup & Recovery.

well i'm pretty sure it was the infamus "nv4_disp.dll" bsod .. but i'm not 100% on that ..i'll check as soon as i get home .

Uninstall all of your chipset/video drivers and reinstall them, and use the 97.92's. See how that works out.

well .. i've had the problem .. messed about with the drivers and all ..tried all versions ... always used driver cleaner pro when removing (in safe mode) and i still got the problem ..
did a fresh install of xp sp2 + drivers (92.92's) and i still get the same issue .
any other suggestions ?

Actually, it doesn't. It calls for around 120W, which in terms of 12V rail current is 10A. 26A is the minimum recommended for the entire system. The 8800 GTX, on the other hand, draw around 160-170W, or so I've seen, which is closer to 14A. As such, it has a minimum entire system requirement of 4A higher (which is 30A).
