8800GTS waterblock Installation?

I recently bought an Aqua-Computer Aquagfx G92 waterblock, and when I installed it, I cleaned the GPU with articsilver cleaner, and then applied AS to the GPU and memory chips, and re-used the stock thermal pads on the voltage regulators.

After getting it all installed, my PC would show graphical corruption at POST screen, so much so it was completely unreadable.

This card was sealed and never used until I put in the waterblock, so I am not sure if it was just a bad batch or I broke something.

Anyone have some experience installing full cover GPU waterblocks on a 8800GTS 512? This was a XFX 8800GTS 512 Alpha Dog
 
I would say something is not making good contact. I always do a test run where I mount it and remove the block to see how good the contact was on the GPU and memory.
 
How do you tell how good the contact is, by the amount of thermal residue left on the block? Also, is it better to apply AS to the memory chips, or use the stock thermal pads?
 
Don't use Arctic Silver on the ram chips! Even though it is non-conductive it is still capacitive. You need something like AS ceramique for those.

You can check the quality of the waterblock contact by inspecting the amount of paste left on both the block and chip.

Also make sure your didn't overtighten the bolts. Sometime excessive flex causes issues like that.

Lastly make sure your the card is fully seated into the slot. Sounds kinda trivial but it is something that commonly causes graphical corruption.
 
Thanks, I tried putting the stock HSF back on and it still had massive graphical corruption. I am gonna RMA this sucker back to XFX.
 
Should I just stick with the stock thermal pads on the ram chips? It was a bitch getting AS on the ram chips because they were so small and after the last few posts and a fried card I don't think I wanna try again.

AS ceramique will fit the bill and not fry your cards.
