8800GTS Performance Dropped

I've had my evga 8800GTS 640MB for about a week and have seen a significant performance drop after removing and reinstalling my video card.

Before removing my video card I was getting about 8900 in 3DMark06 and after reinstalling my card I am now getting less than 3000. I noticed my FPS dropped dramatically for some reason.

I have an SLI motherboard and I originally removed the video card from the top PCI-Express slot to the bottom PCI-Express slot to make more room for a fan. (I am using a Thermalright HR-03 Plus heatsink with 90mm fan).

I don't see any negative side effects in day to day usage, only when playing games that are graphically intense or when running 3DMark06. For instance I can play Soldier of Fortune 2 and get a constant 125 FPS (not a big deal because its an older game). When I play something like Lost Planet DX10 I am only getting about 15 FPS where I was getting about 40+ prior to the card reinstallation.

Here is some basic info and what I have tried so far to resolved the problem.

-removed the video card from the bottom PCI-Express slot and reinstalled it into the top PCI-express slot.
-removed all Nvidia display drivers and reinstalled (tried the latest release and beta release)
-reinstalled the game(s) and app(s) I am having problems with
-card is not overclocked
-system is not overclocked

My next step will be to install the card into friend's computer and see if it works any better but I haven't had a chance to do that yet. Is there anything else I can try to do or did I mess up my card somehow?

System Specs:
AMD Athlon X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz (socket 939)
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
2 GB PC3200 DDR memory
evga 8800GTS 640MB video card (with Thermalright HR-03 heatsink)
MGE Magnum 500W power supply
75GB WD Raptor HD
 
Ok I take it back, I guess I didn't remove the card from the bottom PCI Express slot and move it to the top PCI Express slot.

After relocating the video card everything works great and I am getting close to 8900 again in 3DMark06.

I failed to read the fine print in my Asus motherboard manual... :eek:

"In normal mode, only the PCI Express blue slot (top slot) can be used for PCI Express x16 graphics cards. The PCI express black slot (bottom slot) functions as a PCI Express x1 slot."

WOW!! hey, help me out here bro! I have an MSI 8800GTS 640MB OC (580 core, 850 memory). I cannot get above 7700 points in 06. I have the same processor(939 also) not overclocked and an nforce4 mobo.

Is Vista really hendering my performance that much???

I suppose I should have specified that my high score in 3DMark06 is with using Windows XP Pro.

Your score of 7700 isn't bad for Vista. But there are other factors such as the type of motherboard and RAM you are using. In Vista my score is between 8000 - 8200.
 
OK, thanks. I might just go back to XP till a service pak and drivers mature more.
