I have the upgrade itch bothering me and I wanted to find out how much of an improvement I would see with a 4850 over my current card.I play cod4 and crysis. Cod4 runs great but I haven't tried crysis since I got my
Q6600 and it crapped out on my old e6300. I'm hoping to get 100 for my 8800 on ebay so the price for the 4850 would be great.also what manu. do you guys recommend?

The 4850 is probably the best card for the price.

It beats the GT.

i like visiontek because it has the lifetime warranty and their one of the best quality company for ati cards. if you're planing on gaming on that 28" i say maybe the 4870 is better for you

It beats the GT, especially when high levels of AA and AF are applied. But it doesn't run circles around it exactly. Don't expect it to be much faster, if at all, in something like 3DMark 06 (which runs at 1280x1024 with no AA or AF by default). If possible, try to go for the 4870, unless you play at lower resolutions.

Thanks for the quick replies. What I've learned from the reviews is that the 4870 is just clocked higher and uses ddr5 memory. Any other differences I mightve looked over? And I would be gaming at 1920x1200

at 1920 get the 4870, it may be just clocked higher but with the higher memory badwidth you will see decent gains.

There are no other differences worth mentioning. However, the 4870 has almost *twice* the memory bandwidth of the 4850 thanks to GDDR5 - 115.2GB/s vs just 63.6GB/s for the 4850. This makes a big difference at higher resolutions. I only play at 1280x1024, so a 4870 would have been overkill for me (CPU limited, too). At 1920x1200, I think the 4870 would produce noticeably better framerates.

i just sold my 8800gtx for a 4850
and i run a 24inch monitor at 1920x1200
my cpu is 7200 @3.6ghz
no problems yet

I've also been gaming with a 4850 at 1920x1200, but I only play lightweight games and oldies and never use much AA in newer games. If you plan to hardcore Crysis, CoD4, Bioshock, etc, you might want a better card.

i play cod4 tf2 ut3

its faster than than my 8800gtx or about the same depending the game or app
but i saved my self money and now i have the ability to run Crossfire in 3 months when they are below 100 bucks

I've been getting 170fps in lost-coast @ 1920 x 1200 6xAA, 16xAF and everything max and average 100-120 in TF2 with the same settings :)

For CoD4 I haven't installed yet, but reviews showed it was averaging ~60-70fps... and that's all you need... your monitor can't display more than 60fps :)

Thats bc ur a noob, i get the most killz0rz with my 0wnage 150fps in da CSS
All u noobs think fps dont matta butt pro's like me know it does!!!111111!1!!1!11

/sarcasm

haha so orange box,cod4 and cod5,gears of war,bioshock...at 1920x1200 everything on high with or without AA will i see a noticeable improvement thats worth the 50 bucks its gonna cost me to upgrade?

Crossfire on P965? You want want to reconsider...

LIESSSS!!!!!!

I wish :p

That's why BenQ used to be big with CRT's back a few years ago... because they had ridiculous refresh rates and that's what gamers used to care about because high refresh rates meant you could have more frames being displayed.

with 60hz, your monitor can not display more than 60fps >_<

my 4850 is better than my 8800GTX
its smaller and faster and uses less power
i didn't really need to upgrade but i figured i should so i could sell my 8800 for a good price
iam pretty damn happy with my 4850

ATI fan boy. I am going to upgrade to the 4850 in a matter of days. See who has the best MIR by friday.

iam not a fanboy
i go for cheap solutions

So you simply sold it now just because u can get a better price? I have a 8800GTX along with a 24" display, and I am just curious as to if I should upgrade or not as I am wanting to play Crysis as well as the new Far cry 2 game coming out soon. I have been thinking about waiting to get another 8800GTX maybe at the end of the year or something, so I drastically improve my performance but seeing how some single cards are going to be out, it may be better just to spend that same amount of money to get a more updated card. The conflict here probably my 8800GTX won't sell as much as now :p

I don't know if I am making sense.....mehh!!!

Well I would say a 4850 owns a GTX and a GT(obviously). Where ATi has always been strong was their resolution in the higher frames. I remember when I was still rollin a 9700PRO and all my buddies had these X850XT PCX. I was uber jealous. But anyways to the post of this thread. Buy the 4850 the 50$ you'll spend will be worth the improvement. Really though? Spend the extra 150$ and get the 4870.

I was in a situation where i could sell my 8800GTX for more than the cost of a 4850
the 4850 performs better than the 8800gtx and i have a brand new crossfire motherboard
so it puts me in a good situation all around.

So you think a used 8800GT is only worth about $100 + shipping? I think mine is BFG.

I would say yes, an 8800gt is worth 100$ plus shipping. I'd just keep the 8800GTX you can't get what you paid for it.

I sold my 8800gtx on ebay and got more than i would if i sold it here on the forums

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Maybe throw it in my grandmothers computer if I ever upgrade. lol. Her coolness would go up 10%:D

Are you trying to call us cheap?:D Just kidding. There is a bigger audience on ebay which is a good thing for selling in your case.

YES!!! Your grandma's comp. Cooler then nitro!

Yes, eBay there are multiple people who don't know what they're really looking for. So sometimes any deal is a good deal in the world of eBay.
