8800GT Typical OC?

I have managed to get my grubby hands on a friend's "broken" 8800GT for use for folding. I fixed it earlier today, but I'm not about to tell my friend that... it gets a week in my folding farm! So, since I really don't want to b0rk his card up... about how high can an 8800GT's shader clock tolerate with stock cooling, fan at 100%?

Mine may be a dud, I kept gettng EUE above 1650, which is close to stock on my OC model

depending on the manufacture.. anywhere from 1650-1750 on the shaders.. gpu anywhere from 700-730.. memory should be able to do 1000mhz easy..


but if your using the stock cooling dont bother overclocking the gpu.. its just not worth it for the amount of heat it will create..

different gpu's.. different cooling.. the g92 gpu can handle higher temps then the g80 gpu anyways..

Just go a step at a time, then give it a while and watch the temps. If all is good give it another bump. If the temps get a little too warm or you get a EUE then back it off. Obviously your OC will depend on other factors such as case ventilation and room temp as well.

I have 1782 stable on 590x but they're easy on the GPU. Will see when the WU completes.

I get mine up to 750Mhz core and whatever the shaders are linked at. and rarely any EUE's

i run mine at 760/1890/1010 when folding and gaming.. though i could run it at 800/1890/1000 but with the gpu that high its really picky about the temps.. cant exceed 50C otherwise it hard locks.. at 790 i can have it run at 70C if i wanted.. just seems to be a barrier at 800mhz..

I have four of those cards. All of them have the stock single-slot cooler except for one which needed to be replaced because of a failed fan. I modified an Ati HIS IceQ 3 dual-slot cooler from an old AGP card and it works better than the original. You will definitely get superior OC with a dual-slot or decent aftermarket cooler. The 8800 GT cards are a good deal for the performance.

My 88GT's (zotac, pny) both clock 700/1782/1000 and are very stable. I turn the fans to 100% to keep temps down. This is better than 3x 9800GT's I own...the best shader OC on those are 1728. A number of people on here have stated before that the OC goes in 54Mhz increments so choose either 1728, 1782, or 1836 if it will go that high. It might but may not be stable.

i have the duorb as well.. you can go way higher with the shaders if you have the 1.1v bios mod..

depending on your ambient temp those actually looks about right.. if you are using the stock fan speeds and all that..

though seeing the graph for the fan.. seems to me the fan controller doesnt seem to be right.. or its just gpu-z being lame..

I remember you mentioning the BIOS mod a while back but I never had the time to get around to it. I should do this since I have several 8800 GT cards. Is there a risk updating the BIOS?

the risk is killing the card if it doesnt update correctly.. ill try to find you a simple guide on it.. been a while since i looked it up..

Well, if the guy actually DOES give me the card (which he might do), I'm going to volt the HELL out of it, 1.2V+ here I come. This card looks pretty darned good with stock cooling. (Update to OC: 1782 is stable, 20 hours. Will up at 24.)
