8800GT too hot?

I have 2 8800gt in SLI and each of them run at about 65-69C at idle and 80-85C under load.

Is this safe? I have been looking around on other forums and some people say it is bad others say it is fine, I'm just looking for more input, I have had one of the cards for 1 month the other for 2 months. And haven't seen any problems with them yet.
 
IMO it's hot, but in NVidia's opinion it's not because usually in the 8800GT's BIOS the fan duty cycle remains at 29% for too long and the fan speed will be increased above 78*C !
I recommend for you to use RivaTuner or the evga Precision Tool. Please read carefully this guide for setting up RT, especially the Advanced Automatic Fan Control section.
For my 8800GT the modified values are described in this post. I have 56*C in idle and max 72*C when gaming. ;)

Seems about right for a 8800 GT (with the stock cooler I suppose ?). You can, and probably, should increase the fan cycle @ idle, but it seems ok. As for under load temps, you're fine. You should only worry about temps under load, when they start hovering high 90's, which is very close to the known threshold for the core to throttle down. At this point, you should probably change your stock cooler, with something better.
 
Yeah thats about right temps, when i was playing crysis on high i used to get 79-81 degrees with my 8800GT. Idle around 54.
 
Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to be getting a new case sometime this month. The HAF 932, I think it will get a lot better airflow than my current case, it is a bit crampt in there. I am most likely going to be upgrading my cards with the step-up program too.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't hurting anything now.
