Well I finally got a GPU that can fold!! I purchased a PNY 8800GT that is running @ 600/1800/1789mhz (core/mem/shaders). I haven't o/c'ed anything but the shaders so far. Anything higher then 1789 would cause BSOD after lockup. I have the F@H SVC locked to core 3 and my other three cores are running WCG. I can't figure out why my PPD is so low? I am currently processing [21:24:54] Working on 576 p5005_supervillin_e1. I purchased this 8800GT over a 4850 cuz of the better F@H potential, but it seems like even the 4850 would be getting better results then I am:confused:? Rig specs are in my sig.

 
Post some specs. Occasionally you will get a chewy WU that has a lower PpD, but typically you should see about 4500-5k from an 8800GT
 
Check and make sure you have enough power (PSU), reseat your card, unplug and replug your electrical plug. If all else fails like Mr relic said, maybe you got an extra "chewy" WU (check the WU out in FAHmon, etc and cross reference it with Stanford to see if you got some "gimongus" low point WU):eek:

"Knock on wood" I haven't had any problems at all with my PNY 8800GT 512 MB, it gets a pretty constant PdD of 5,000+ (ATM it's 5316, with a 480 pernt 5016 WU) I have my shaders OC'ed to 1868 and my fan is manual set at 90%. When I "crunch" one of the 430 pernt WU's I have a PpD drop to about 5,000 or a little better. :(

If you can't get your shaders above 1789 and it's not a power problem try underclocking your memory and core clock (I don't know if or how much this'll help, it's only a suggestion, my EVGA 8800GS has a shader OC' above 1789)

Edit: I just reread the posts. I'm doing exactly the same thing that was posted above. (without the SVC thing, I don't even know what that is) I'm WCGn' on cores 0, 1, 2 and, by default my GPU2 client locks on core 3 on my slightly OC'ed (3.0 Ghz, WC') Q6600 (G0). I set the GPU2 client (FahCore_11.exe) to "below normal" with the priority set and leave the other three set to "low". (the default)

You want 177.35 or better to fold at full speed.
The 174.55 drivers will fold but at a slower rate.

I am running WCG on three cores, 0, 1, 2. Core 3 is used just for F@H.

Did anyone read the OP lol;)? I thought I pretty much gave the meaty part of things. As far as my PS goes, I am running a ThermalTake ToughPower 700W. IT is a very well built and highly regarded unit (when it came out). It was one of the first 700 watters to be 85% efficient I believe. The rest of my specs are in my sig; I don't wanna just copy and paste 'em. According to F@Hinfo.org, there aren't any scores submitted for this project I'm currently crunching away on:confused:. Standford gives it a credit of 480.

According to the Nvidia Control Panel, I'[m using 175.19. I went to the Nvidia site and grabbed what I thought where the latest ones, but it seems I made a mistake. Where can I get these 177.35 drivers?

 
My 8800 GT runs that one in particular at ~5000PPD. Definitely try and grab the newer CUDA drivers. The 177.84s are here, and I would assume they would run as fast as the early .35s that set the new performance mark.

 
the 8800GT on stock cooler should be able to do 700/1700/1000 but i wouldnt venture any higher then that on a stock cooler.. you might be able to get a little more gpu speed out of it.. but that should bring you up to 4200PPD.. id suggest using the 178.13 beta drivers.. they seem to have the best performance gain of any drivers nvidia's released so far..

gpu/shader are the 2 important things for folding from what i can tell..
 
I'm running the same type of setup as you but with a different card. Your symtom sounds like the cores aren't really locked on WCG and one of the processes is crossing over to the GPU core.

I think you can verify that by stopping the Boinc service and running the GPU standalone for 10-15 minutes and see what the points on the GPU do. I use Bill's2 process manager to isolate WCG/GPU on 2 quads and get full ppd on both machines. If your ppd increases while WCG isn't running, you'll need to isolate the two.

Wow. Thanks for the tip. I upgraded last night from the 174.55s to the new 178.13s and I gained 300 PPD on my 8800GS! :cool:
