I have a BFG 8800gt OC video card that sizzles up to 84C under load at times. I've opened my case and have a small box fan blowing straight into my case as a temporary solution. This has decreased my temps to approximately 65C under load. I've been researching after-market solutions and I read this article:

The Thermalright HR-03 GT has caught my eye because it can supposedly be mounted on either side of the card. I have too little room to put this cooler in place of the stock cooler. I was wondering if I could leave the stock cooler in place and mount the Thermalright HR-03 GT on the other side. Or will the stock cooler have to be removed?

Thanks in advance!

Stock cooler will have to be removed, as the heatsink has to make contact with the GPU (which is covered by the heatsink). The two way mounting is by overlapping to the back of the card, not mounting TO the back of the card.

Either way, I'd get the Zalman VF900 or the Accellero S1 over the Thermalright. Save money and it'll work much better (and in a tighter space, in the case of the Zalman)

Have you tried changing the autofan settings with rivatuner? I know that helped a lot when I had the stock cooler.

I have adjusted the fan settings in rivatuner, and i get a temp decrease from 84C to 78C. I was looking for a more effective solution. Thanks for your advice and expertise entropism.
