8800GT 256MB SLI on Opteron 170 @2.6Ghz ?

I am building my dad a new PC and I was thinking about swapping out my x1900xt for an 8800GT 256MB SLI setup. These two cards will go in my 2.6Ghz Opteron 170 system.

Curious how well this SLI setup works on an older but still decent system like this?

Thanks in advance!

I assume you are overclocking that 170, since stock they run at 2 Ghz.

I have a system that's not all that far off, dual Opteron 856, which run at 3 GHz. I have a 9800GX2. Both are new upgrades, I had been running dual Opty 246 (2 Ghz) with an 8800GTX for a few months, and then for a few days the 246es with the 9800GX2. I very much prefer the 9800GX2 even on the slower processor, the performance increase was substantial at my native res of 1920x1200. You're not going to get stunning 3dmark scores, but you'd game just fine.

Unless your gaming monitor is quite low resolution, I think you'd be far better off with a 512 MB card than with SLIed 256 MB cards, however.
