8800GS vs. 9600GT

I'm building a computer for a friend and I now have to decide between getting him an 8800GS and a 9600GT. They're both fairly fast GPUs, but I'm questioning whether or not he'll need the small amount of extra muscle the 9600GT provides, seeing as he'll be playing at 1440x900. Some benchmarks I looked at suggested they were nearly equal in power, and that an overclocked 8800GS could trade punches with an 8800GTX. The 8800GS is also about $50 cheaper after a rebate. Is there any big reason I should favor the 9600GT more?

How about the 8800GTS its better than the 8800GS and its as good as the 9600GT for the price of 120 dollars after rebates on newegg the 320mb version=)

I'm trying to make the same desision for my next pay check. The one I feel I'm going to go with is a Palit 9600 GT. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3636416&CatId=3585
The only draw back that I can see from the 8800's is that this card will not suport multi monitors, but will not effect me any. Curently it can be had for around $60 less than the 88's as well
