Hey guys, i am looking at the 8800 GTS series since i cant afford the GTX series so is this the 8800GTS still a good graphics card?. Also, when im looking at the 8800GTS cards, they are alot of differnt brands, (EVGA, BFG, etc.) and im not sure what the difference is between them and if the OC version is any better (im getting a good deal on the BFG 8800GTS OC edition), or should i try and get the GTX series
can an1 please help me?

Thank You

the good thing about the OC edition card is that they will be binned higher than the others.

As far as brands go..... i'm interested as well. (evga's step-up program seems the best)

so for specs go for the OC version but EVGA's steup option looks good but isnt there a 60 day limit?

edit: Ahhh nvm i checked and its 90 days...ummm can an1 else still answer the other questions?
Thx

Yeah, the limit is either 60 or 90 days. if you are planning on keeping the card for a while just get the cheaper one.

It's 90 days. eVGA has a great setup program and a great warranty. The GTS is a great card from what I hear. I personally would not get the OC version - instead I would rather just OC the card myself.

But the OC version should be a better binning of gpu...... therefore allowing an even higher OC

at DX9 the 8800GTS is on par with 7950GX2 which few months ago was the best, it will orgasm you on any major game unless you want 1900x1600 with 16AA.
I have little knowledge on the GTX tho so I assume its equivalent of a 7950GX3?????

If you decide to purchase any of these cards be sure to back it up with a decent CPU (core 2 will do) otherwise bottlenecking will occur.

hmm...thx yea im planning on getting a core 2 duo E6600, and RAM im not sure about but im thinking of getting the Corsair Twinx so no bottlenecking should happen (i hope), any more input on the video cad would be great! u guys have been very resorceful!, thank u very much.

Possibly. Its crazy to see at that store the OC version for cheaper than the non-oc version.

hmm.can any of u explain "binning", and also i was checking ncix again..lol and they have the EVGA E-GEFORCE 8800 GTS for 479.99, so this for the BFG OC for 519.99

there's no proof that the "OC" batch of cards will overclock higher.. that is just an assumption.

If you were a card maker, and you had to test every card that went through your factory for each ones top performance, wouldn't you make sure the top performers were sold for more money? I think it's a pretty good assumption that "OC" addition cards will in fact overclock better than the stock clocked versions.

To the OP.....the 8800GTS is a killer card. I'm going for it myself. Get that BFG you were talking about if it's a good deal.

if your going to buy the oc edition of the gts, you might as well buy the stock clocked gtx instead for a similar price. i dont see the point in buying a higher priced gts(especially since its so easy to overclock), when you just said you couldnt afford a gtx. it kinda defeats the purpose.

edit: i just checked the prices on newegg for oc'd gts's, and they are pretty reasonably priced. but it's still a little extra cash for an easy overclock. btw those links you have up with the gts are way overpriced, its like $120 cheaper on the egg, and probly on other sites too.

I think they're probably binned higher. I got an evga GTS and got a stable overclock at 600/2000. But, my friend got an OC edition of a BFG GTS (the regular edition was sold out and the OC edition was like 10-20 more). His got to 650/2000 stable. They're probably binned higher, but I wish they weren't. Cause I plan on stepping up to a GTX and I can't step up to an OC'd card...

Yeah, I'd stay away from the overclocked ones...

I was able to hit 660/2000 on stock cooling with my normal eVGA 8800GTS, 675/2100 on water.

It's really not worth the extra money for something that's reasonably free and easy to do otherwise.

hmm..couple of things, yes they are cheaper on egg but if i buy from there i have to pay for shipping, and taxes at the border so tis really not worth it, and the 8800GTS oc version is 519 on sale which is 10 dollers cheaper then the normal one (- 130 dollars on sale) so any feedback?

I have (2) PNY 8800GTS's, Corsair Ram and an E6600.. I can vouch for this being a good combination.

wow..nice specs..so there is no difference in the 8800 GTS series just the brand name, and can an1 answer the previoues question, is it okay of i get the OC version because its 10 dollars cheaper then the non ocd version (sale)

The initial 8800 series cards that were released a few months ago, were all the same. The only thing that differed was the "company logo sticker" on top of the card.. Since then, they have come out with an ACS cooler (eVGA) and a few water cooling solution cards.. Other than that, they are all pretty much in the same park as one another.. (because they were initially less in price, thats why I went with PNY). I have them overclocked at 625/2000.. No problems!

officermartinez thank you, u really clleared some things up, last question guys, lol if i get the OC version will thier be any setbacks, or negatives?( excluding the price since its cheaper than non oc'd right now)
