I just got this card from Newegg. I'm in the process of installing it and I see that it has a PCI-E power socket on the card itself. I also have one on the mobo...

Do I need to connect both of them?
If I connect them both will it damage something?
If I don't connect both of them will it damage something?

For some reason this didn't come with a manual, it only came with some really generic instructions that say nothing about connecting power to it. I'm kind of thinking this was to provide someone who doesn't have that mobo power socket the ability to use this card...

Please let me know, I would really like to take it for a spin but I don't want to blow anything up...

umm the motherboard should only use the 4pin plug and the 8800GTS uses the 6pin plug there both different.
 
you plug in the 24 pin connector, the 4pin 12v (square 4 pin guy) connector, and the 4 pin molex next to the pcie slots, AS WELL AS the 6 pin pcie connector on the graphics card.
 
That MB is an early SLI board that required extra power from the PSU IF you were going to use SLI.(dual video cards)

If you are using a single video card only, you will not need to plug a 4 pin molex into the MB at all. It won't hurt anything to do so, but it is not needed.
