I just upgraded from the 8600gts so I have a spare card sitting around that I was going to give it to buddy if it will have any benefit in his pc. He is putting together a pc with the following board which has onboard video:

ASUS M4A88T-M AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Would adding the 8600gts to this setup make any difference or be beneficial? Thanks for your help, I have not kept up much With the new cards, so I was not sure how my old card would stack up with the new onboard chipsets.

if you are asking if the 8600gts is faster than the onboard 4250, the answer is heck yes. if this is for modern gaming though then the 8600gts is not going to get the job done either.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering, it's going to be for an htpc so won't be to graphics intensive. Just Bluray down the road. Will the onboard video work with the 8600gts or will it just be disabled with the card plugged in? Basically, will the graphics capabilities be better than just an 8600gts in a board without onboard video? Thanks for your reply.

For HTPC, just go with the 880G onboard. Don't even bother with 8600gts because it will just use more power and noise.
