EVGA 8600 GT from CC for $150 less rebate, couldn't pass up the cheap upgrade.

First attempt, using latest nTune, got 675 core, 775 memory. Not sure if this is stable, as it has acted weird- I used to be able to alt-tab out of games to the desktop and do other stuff and then alt-tab back into a game, now it seems like there is no memory available to do that.

System memory config. hasn't changed- running WinXP Pro SP2 with 2GB on a Dell 5150 w/ 925D. With the updated MB, no more "incompatible processor" errors.

Only change has been going from a 6600GT to the 8600GT and having to update the drivers- display driver crashed running 700 core, 783 memory, had to manually shut down and do a cold reboot. Can't get the nTune test to pass at those speeds now- thus the drop in OC.

I don't see temps going over 58C- is this the limit?

Maybe I should try ATI Tool or Rivatuner?

Well are you using the latest version of Ntune that came out a few days ago? The newest version does not even have a test settings button. I can run 662/1762 without any probs. ATI tool or Rivatuner is not going to make your oc more stable.

I think the version of ntune I'm using was dated something like 4/26. I'll have to go back and check if there is a newer version than that.

Mine definitely had a test settings button- you switch to manual control of core and memory speeds and the test settings button is right there, by the slider bars.

So if I'm running 675 core 775 memory, that should be considered good? That's a few MHz above yours.

Well maybe the "test" setting doesnt show up in Vista but It looks like we are both running the lastest version. I would back off the the 675 down to about 660 if I were you. I dont run my card everyday at the highest oc it can handle. In fact mine is at stock speeds right now.

Oops, should have specified. Rather sure it would do at least 700 on the stock sink though.

I doubt it especially since the XFX model has the old 6600gt/7600gt cooler which is smaller than the reference 8600gt one. After about 670-675 there were a couple color glitches during testing on my Evga one.
