So i am looking for something around the 850 range and would prefer one that's gold efficiency. The two i'm looking at are the seasonic x850 and the corsair ax850.

The problem is that while the x750 and ax850 both get rave reviews on the egg, the x850 doesn't have any reviews and the ax850 is only pulling 4/5 stars (which when i'm putting down 200 bones on a 850 watt psu makes me a bit nervous).

Thoughts by anyone? Which one would you go for, if either?

Your first issue, you read newegg reviews. Newegg reviews are about as useful as NO reviews. The only reviews that count are the ones from placed like here, jonnyguru, anandtech, hardwaresecrets, etc. Also the X850 and AX850 are the same platform with only possible minor variances. Both are awesome.

thanks. i generally only look at the percentages on the newegg reviews to get an idea of DOA rates and such.

I've read some reviews on them and I'll probably pick up the corsair.

thanks for the help.

The AX850 and X-850 are the same PSU. The Corsair has a longer warranty and is slightly cheaper, so that would be my recommendation.

I'd go with the Seasonic. They use a quieter San Ace fan, while the Corsair comes with a Yate Loon.

The CP-850 is worse than the PSUs being discussed here and only fits in a handful of cases.

Its also 100 dollars less then the models being discussed here, and when you say it performs worse we are talking about some small potatoes.

But yes, it only fits in a handful of cases.

OP, do you have an Antec case?

Sure the CP-850 is relatively cheap and very good, but unless you have the right case and don't mind the lower efficiency, there's no reason to get it at this point. I'd prefer the flexibility of the mentioned models in case I ever want to change cases.

The OP also specifically said he wants an 80Plus Gold-certified PSU. The CP-850 only meets 80Plus standard requirements.
