Standby is a mode that was never really meant for desktop PCs but was designed for notebooks to conserve battery power.

Most likely, the software for the DiNovo stays active and does not suspend at all. This will keep the system from powering off as it has to keep a low currentl flowing to keep the data and the process alive. You may want to use Hybernate if you absolutely cannot turn off your PC.
 
What you described is the difference between standby and hibernate modes.

Standby shuts down power to most of the system, harddrive, etc, but keeps the RAM active.

Hibernate writes the contents of RAM to harddrive, then shuts down the computer, then when you start the computer up it loads the RAM from harddrive.

I agree with the previous poster, the DiNovo driver probably won't let the system hibernate, or it changed that property in the control panel from hibernate to standby. Look under power settings.
