I just won an 840 extreme edition proc at the ICC today. I have been really busy lately and have not had much surfin time. What would be the latest and best board to overclock this badboy with. I don't really need another computer, but what the hell. I'll probably load some games on it and let the kids play it when they come over.

I think I'm gonna build it. I just can't make up my mind. I really would like to get the new Canon EOS 20D This would really go a long way towards making that happen. If I do, I'm leaning toward the ASUS P5WD2 Premium. I'd like to make it my media server/game machine. I just can't figure out how to do everything I want to do with it, with the funds I don't have laying around.

Can I use the 32 bit media center o/s with this, or do I have to have the 64 bit o/s?
From what I've read, this thing is Intel's hottest (temp. wise) proc. I am really challenged tring to find an air cooling method. I dont think I ready to attempt a water cooling set up just yet. Especially if I am gonna get this thing in my media area by the TV. If I'm gonna use it for gaming, it's gonna have to go near the TV.

air cooling will technically be fine but ur gunna run pretty damn hot...and yes, u can use 32bit windows home/pro. water cooling wud be best for OCing but a thermalright xp-90 will get u some damn good temps

and also, not to be an AMD guy but u do know AMD usually outperforms intel in gaming. but wth, its a goddamn free cpu why wud u go and buy one!!

My CPU Is Idle at 51C and Full Load at 61C. Alot of people think that is hot, but really, for two 3733MHz Prescott Cores... thats not so bad

Running Koolance EXOS2 (not the best) on Fan speed 5 out of 10

Only thing in the loop is the CPU. I am happy

Just use the HSF it comes with. Intel rates that heatsink to handle the chip, so it will handle the chip, if not, err, do freebies have warranties?

I still cant believe you won suck a nice chip. Slap a thermaltake heatsink on it with a panaflo fan. Cool and quiet, the stock fans are really loud

I have an XP90c/Panaflo H/O 92mm fan/Arctic Silver 5 combo on my CPU and I get the following temps at 73F ambient room temp:

CPU Idle: 33c
CPU Load: ~44-48c

Mobo Idle: 28c
Mobo Load: 33c

Why not.

You still have the warranty papers. How would they know it was a freebie? Besides, if they gave someone a free CPU, would they expect the guy to go and spend money to replace something he got for free and might have come to depend on?
