840 EVO vs 840 Pro. Reliability

Technically, yes.

Will you notice... probably not unless you keep either drive a very long time, or you do a lot of writes.
 
I've been using Samsung 830 drives for 2 years with tons of writes, no trim, and still haven't had a single failure. And added a dozen 840 EVOs a few months ago, no failures yet.
 
Pro is better yes.
evo use tlc nand and Pro use mlc
normal user most likely will upgrade before the drives are close to end of life.
Normal usage patterns I would say 8 years and still you be fine.
endurance on pro is better tho.
 
I ended up ordering the 840 EVO 500GB. I placed the order yesterday and a few moments ago tried to cancel it to order the Pro, but it was too late. I'll keep it when it arrives and use my current drive as back up.
My 1st SSD. I'm nervous. ;)
 
I use the 830, 840 Pro and 840 EVO (1TB version) and personally don't think reliability is a concern with these drives, they all work well.

Any drive can die at any time even if it cost you 2 grand, that is why you backup your data.

Be sure to use the performance fix tool on your drive if it does not come with the most recent firmware.

The Performance Restoration fix can be used before I copy my HDD to it right? The USB to SATA cable comes with.
 
You have to partition it and format it with NTFS for some reason. I did that, applied the fix, secure erased it after that and finally did a clean Win 8.1 install.
 
Received my 840 EVO today and noticed the 850 Pro is on sale for $319.99!
Return the EVO and order the 850 Pro? $100 more for 10 year warranty?

Up to you. If you can spare $100 then I don't see why not. Otherwise the Evo should work just fine for many years to come. I'm happy with my Evo.
 
Friend also got one Samsung ,and it works great ! He use it for system only.And 1TB for else.
