84.21 Performance Boost

Okay so I installed 84.21 WHQL OMFG the boost wasn't super dramatic but it was good but the suprizing part is that it was in ALL of my games that I currently have installed over 84.20

Fear about 5%
Call of Duty 2 about 15% <----- biggest boost of all tested
Half Life 2 about 10%
NFS MW about 10-15%
Quake 4 about 10%

The only thing I have yet to do is run 3dmark 06 with the new driver sets. (last thing on my priority list right now)

Grab these drivers now if you have a new 7600/7900 series card. Oh and Purevideo looks better than ever. ;)
 
When I see boosts like this I'm more inclined to think that your previous installation was borked, and it was the mere act of the installation, rather than the new drivers themselves that resulted in the boost.

That's just me though.

I always do the same installation procedure each time so I doubt the installation was bad. Right click videocard from device manager choose uninstall, say yes to remove all nvidia drivers/nview stuff, reboot into safe mode run drivercleaner pro. Hose nvidia drivers, reboot in safe mode install new drivers, reboot.

Let's see I just spent $1200 on the 2 7900GTX's and $500 on the 1kw psu, $200 for the A8N SLI, $389 for the cpu, $170 for the 2Gigs of memory, $210 for the 2 200Gig WD SATA Hard drives, $99 for X-Fi sound card, $275 for the 2 Plextor PX716 SATA DVDRW Drives and the NEC ND3500AG Drive (Toooo much!!!!!!!!!!!) this is not counting the cost of all the fans and cpu heatsink and my 20.1 Viewsonic Vp201 LCD ($899), I am still not quite done fine tuning it yet.

would these also have a boost on a 7800gtx 256mb?
 
I'm not getting any boost on 84.21 over 84.20:

3DMark06: -25 points (within the margin of error)
Doom3: no difference in 1600x1200 and 1280x1024 with and without AA
HL2: no difference with and without AA in 1600x1200 and 1024x768
CoD2: no gain or loss at 1600x1200 or 1280x1024

You probably had a problem with your 84.20 installation if you got a big boost with 84.21. There's only a 30 hour time difference between the two versions.

When I went to install them, it gave me the non-WHQL warning..... "Continue Anyway or Cancel" shit. Whats up with that?
 
i got a slight boost in bf2, nothing that i was really impressed with, but a free proformence upgrade is a free proformence upgrade

I redownloaded 84.21 and message went away. Originally I had downloaded from Mirror #3 when it was first announced, & they must not have had the WHQL version up yet.

Anyone compared 83.91 vs 84.21 ??
 
I'm getting identical numbers with these drivers, almost the exact same scores as 84.20s. That said, I don't have F.E.A.R. installed right now and that is the one place I could use a boost, I'll have to re-install it today.

Not exactly. Most of the files differ in binary compares and 84.21 was built 30 hours after 84.20.

But there doesn't seem to be any performance differences.

then it is not fixed and screw going through the registry to take out the dual core crap. Nvidia should have done this by now.
 
What is the dual-core problem you guys are talking about? I haven't read about it and I am currently installing WinXP on my new X2 4400+ 7900GTX machine... it would seem you guys are referring to bugs with the 7900 drivers and dual-core but it's the first I've heard of it and I'll be quite unhappy if my brand new comp is bugged at the moment. :confused:

What dual core issue? I have not had a single crash in 84.20 or 84.21... or for that matter any previous driver since I got a X2 over a month ago.

QFT me neither, look at my rig in signature I have a dual core and haven't had a single problem once I added the amd driver, the windows hotifx and modded the registry as suggested by Microsoft.
 
i know there was some issue in quake4 with dual core and nvidia cards a couple months ago. there was an update for quake4 to add more performance for dual cores. this caused problems with newer nvidia drivers which had their own optimizations for dual cores. i dont know if this is what some of you are referring to or not.

love the wiring job you did. coming from that case, i know its a real pain to do any wiring iwth it.

Do you play CS:S? I get performance issues when I don't set the affinity on my dual core. Eventually my game will lock up and I gotta ctrl-alt-delete it. CS:S seems to be the only game I get it with though.
 
Did they fix the issue where Paint Shop 8/9/10 won't open on dual cores machines? Had to go back to an ATI card on my media box because I use PSP a lot on that machine.

I use PSP9 and never had a problem opening it with a X2.

Are you guys using the cool n quiet driver or something?

It was a pretty commonly reported event on the nvnews forums for a while, I encountered the issue around October/November on my Pentium D system so C&Q is not the issue. Likewise I had tons of issues with Source based games and CTDs on that system that was otherwise 100% rock stable. Since I have a decent AMD based system I just moved my gaming back there for the time being, but updated processor drivers and the MS hotfix never resolved my initial dual core issues (and that machine, a Dell 9100, was more my wife so I didn't work real hard at fixing it, just formatted popped in an ATI card and gave it to her).

Yes I need to QFT. That is right. Man you have no problems that is awesome. I did not have any problems either until I played WoW while thottbotting etc. Reversing to the 77 series drivers fixed it. Many have reported problems with CS:S also.

I'll have to give those a try...

It actualy works pretty well. Red and blue glasses alone will work (allthough shutter glasses are heaven), and it realy puts you IN the action.

I kept the 78.01's all the way through my run of HL2 just so I could use the sterio 3D driver.
 
So I haven't touched my drivers since October's 81.85s. I figured since my 6800GT is pretty much outdated these days that I won't be seeing any performance gains, as nVidia's probably focused on their current generation cards. Is this assumption true? The only game I'm playing right now that I really need more performance for is Oblivion (those beautiful outdoor settings sadly push me down to 1024x768)...do you think I'd see any performance gains there over my current 5 month old drivers?
