i am near to buying two of these to go in two 80mm holes i cut in the side of my case to blow directly on my newly setup SLI 8800GTS setup

anyone care to recommend a better fan??, 80x38mm is even okay vs. 80x25mm

adjustable is not necessary but i thought it a nice option to have to run quiet when not gaming and full open when working it...

anyways, thanks

ive personally used about 12 of these in various cases. other than the LED's tend to go dull after a bit(no biggie to me) they only give off a very low "hum" more than anything. 5 of these in an old school antec full tower is noticeable(been runnin almost 2yrs now :D), but good airflow/noise ratio imo

check out this funky looking fan

i was actually looking at that one on newegg, 92mm flow in a 80mm bolt pattern...it's one i am considering still

this looks like a good balance between cost and quality, have had panaflo fans in the past, they are nice

well let me pose this question......is there anything else i can do to stay cool with these cards packed in here like this without spending a bunch of cash...???

it's a DFI Lanparty NF4-D mobo with only one pcie slot in between the 8x pcie sli slots, and with reference coolers on both GTS's and with a pci Audigy2ZS sound card that can only go on the bottom pci slot directly below the second GTS......i have about a 3.5" thick sandwich of PCB's, the back side of the sound card is like 1mm off the face of the intake of the bottom GTS, then the back of that GTS is also like 1mm off the face of the top GTS......

i noticed one of them hitting 80*c after a little UT3 gaming so it was higher than that at some point..so i figured stick two 80mm fans in the side panel blowing right into the PCB "sandwich" and that should help a lot, just cutting the holes helped quite a bit as i have a 120mm fan in the top for a blow hole fan, two 80mm's in the front blowing in, and two 80mm's on the back exhausting, and also the 120mm on the Ninja HSF blowing from front to back

oh...and i have tried GPU-Z latest version and EVGA Precision software for monitoring...and they read differently, which one to trust?

Panflos' are nice...but they definitely are not quiet.
It depends on which model you get. They go from low to high airflow with noise increasing along the way. I like them because they can push a lot of air at 80mm but don't have a high pitch about them.

anyways, thanks

the Rosewill RCX-Z2 7 blades 80mm reverse ball bearing fan CPU Cooler (Retail) is ONE of the best 80mm fans you can buy.

you can thank me later

:D:cool::D:cool::D:cool::D:cool::D:cool:

i got to looking at my situation....when i cut the two 80mm holes in the side panel next to the vid cards, my idle temps on each GPU dropped from like 60-62 to 50-52, without fans....and with that i decided that i only needed minimal performing fans, nothing extraordinary, as it is the 120mm blowhole fan in the top pulls so much air that simply opening up the holes in the vicinity of the cards did wonders....so i just grabbed a couple 80mm CCFL UV fans from ebay.....instead of spending the few bucks on better performing fans, i decided to spice up the case a bit with it....should turn out nice and bright and cool just fine

thanks everybody for their suggestions!

Your welcome

oh btw in my travels ive found you can usually extract really really good 92/80mm fans from old PSU's,

I have a stack of Mascools, and they have done quite well. I used to buy Sunons exclusively - good airflow, reasonable noise.

If I were you I would cut a bigger hole and use a 92mm or 120mm fan.
The bigger fan you go the lower the tone of the fan is.
Plus bigger fans push more air....

Ive re-cut all my custom blowholes to fit 92mm or 120mm fans, and I use an adapter on my heatsink to use a 92mm fan and scrapped all my 80mm fans.

In my 2nd cpu I will use 80mm fans, but they are skinny 80mm fans to cool hdds (red led to go along with case theme too).
