I just got an 80GB drive (WD800) and formatted it for my GF's PC with the XP disk. On installing XP, after the reboot, it cant read from the drive... even tho it says it copied fine. I reformated, partitioned, danced over it, etc. and it still wont work right. Any ideas?

what does it say?

you check the boot order in the BIOS?
change it to HDD0 as the first device
the Master Device on the Primary IDE Channel is the first position scanned
(not that it sounds like there is a 2nd HDD, but the sooner it finds it the faster the boot)

Even as t3h only drive HDD0, it still says something about unable to find boot sector.... and I ran fixboot and fixmbr :'(

I hate WD.... just cuz they're junk and I lost 3 drives out of 4 in a 0+1 array... all WDJB100's 300GB DIED in one day, one after the other...

Ive said this before, but when I hear of cases like that
well...its often more important who you buy from and how they are handled (from factory to end user)
then what your buying, Ive got 12 WD400BBs that are 3 years old and up

Which Brand of Hard Drive is Most Reliable?
Proper Handling Guide

have you swapped out the cables
tested your memory (memtest86+)
and run the HDD manufacturers diagnostic? in this case Data Lifeguard?
