805 vs. 930 and Overclocking

Right now I could afford either one, but the 805's $130 is mighty tempting compared to the 930's $210. It will be used for multimedia/multitasking stuff, which is why I'm getting dual-core, and it'll be used with 2GB Corsair VS 533, X800XL, Asus P5WD2 Premium and most likely an AC Freezer 7 Pro, unless there's a comparable/better cooler for ~$40-50. I'm not new to OCing, so that would definitely happen. :p Thanks!

I know that there are many sites that have done OC reviews of the 805, and I think for it's price there is probably nothing close to it. Just google pentium d 805 overclocking and you'll get a bunch of reviews.

as for a better cooler for that price range, here's the ninja w/a scythe fan. $38, so if you'd like tack on a different 120 mm fan and you're set.

Well, as it turns out I'm already $30 over budget with the 930. I'll still get it if it's that much better, but the more money saved the better. I'm a student, so cash isn't readily available. I haven't purchased the mobo yet either, so would this be a good one too? Or is the P5WD2 much better? It doesn't have to be an uber-rig - just enough to last me a year so so until Conroe is more affordable.

Well the nForce 4 Intel chipset is junk, and you're using an ATI video card, so stay away from that. Go for a good 945P ASUS board, like one of these.

The Abit AW8-Max was only $130 with free shipping at newegg the other day. I'd get that over one of the Asus 945P boards, but that's just me.

The Abit was one of my first choices, but it only has one IDE port and I have two IDE devices, so that knocked it out. I'll probably just end up sticking with the P5WD2 (which I can get for $145 used, BTW), unless someone can suggest a better value with 2xIDE for under that price.

You can't run a master/slave with your two devices?

Ones a DVD and one's a HD, so if there's a cable that can do that, by all means.

Yeah, but is there a cable long enough to reach both a HD and a disk drive at the top? Edit: Ahh. I'd have to find a way to route it so it wouldn't look like crap..but it certainly opens up my options.

So, now it's pretty much the Abit AW8 vs. Asus P5ND2 SLI. Both look very good, although the Asus is $10 cheaper. The Asus also does very well in the benchies against the 955x chipset. They're both compatable with the 805, although that's iffy since they both need a BIOS update for it to work. Do you think it's been out long enough for the manufacturers to start shipping them with the supporting BIOS?

I had a P5ND2-SLi last summer, and it SUCKED. BIOS issues all over the place and no OCing whatso ever.

Well, minor change of plans. My mom says she'll pay for the extra cost of the 930 and the Asus P5WD2 mobo, so that's probably what I'm going to go with. But I'm still open to last minute opinions!

Get an AMD setup instead :p.

My P5ND2 came stock with the 501 BIOS (601 is latest), worked fine with the D 805.
