802.11G from different vendors?

I have a Linksys WPC54G card in my laptop and a negear WGR614 wireless G router, and they both only want to talk at 11Mb.

If I put in both units to communicate at 54G only, I lose connection. Put it using both B & G and it works.

Probably not relavent but I have SSID disabled, 64bit WEP enabled, shared key setup, and MAC address filtering. I could do 128bit WEP, but I saw a network performance hit with it that high.


What am I missing to get these two non-similar vendors to talk at G speeds? Or should I just buy a Netgear PCMCIA card?
 
i've heard that ppl get dropped even with equipment from the same vendor. linksys/netgear/dlink, SOHO wireless equipment in general is crap, so you shouldn't expect much from it......
