I have a friend who has a Dimension 8300 and it needs updating. He just reformatted/reinstalled windows xp home for the first time. Is there a utility program like most mobo companies have which easily allows for updates? His system has the original drivers etc. We installed a fresh 6.11 after doing proper uninstall using DCpro and Reg Mechanic but he still get's 30-40 fps instead of previous 99 fps.

It is a BF2 specific issue as COD1 runs fine.

what resolution is he playing? AA??

You should check that AA isn't enabled...

I was only getting 25-50fps online slugfest with 50people at 1280x1024 8xAF on my Radeon 850xt and Pentium D @ 3.6ghz...

I got a conroe now fps jumped by a good 50-75% in online slugfest...

yeah the settings thing I should have asked first lol. I didn't think to b/c it was so obvious to me I guess.

ok. he has all of his settings and original drivers, mobo drivers etc all of it exactly the same as previously. now he says that all games suffer performance hits compared previous installs.

what resolution is he playing? Is he graphic card literate?

Is he playing online? He must have changed settings somehow which he doesn't remember...

Like I said before in above post... I was only getting 25-50 fps with the specs above on a Pentium D overclocked 3.6ghz.. This is the norm if you play online with 50 people shooting and blowing things up... Single player is much faster...

Soon as I changed to a conroe @ 3.0ghz I am getting 45-85fps with same amount of players and same graphic settings...

A 800xl with 3.0ghz pentium 4 will not give you 100fps unless he set the game on medium and lower resolution....

the 800xl was overheating. I think he needs to update the mobo too which is a Dell 875 model is OM2035. I can't find any updates for it though.

I used to run BF2 on a P4 2.8, 1 gig ram, and x800xl at 1280x1024 res all high, no shadows, no AA, ave fps of 40-60 depending on location and number of players. I don't know how your friend was able to play at 99 fps unless he was running 800x600 no AA and lowest settings.

With regards to the overheating, I'm not surprised. Dell machines have horrible air circulation.
