I'm doing some research for a friend and wanted to see what you all suggest.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
-Gaming, Web Browsing, & light programming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
-$800. Shipping & tax included
3) Where do you live?
-Atlanta, GA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
-Everything except a monitor, mouse, and speakers. Just need case and parts. CPU, mobo, RAM, hdd, GPU...
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
-26" LCD Samsung (not sure about model #. will get if needed)
6) Will you be overclocking?
-Yes, slightly
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
-26" Samsung...#5
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
-Christmas'ish
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
-Crossfire, RAID...I think that's it
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
-Yes. Windows 7 64 bit

shiro's build looks good, considering your budget. Though, for gaming on that size monitor, I'd definitely upgrade the budget, or drop down to a Phenom2 X3 in order to get a better vidcard -- IF you'll be playing GPU bound games (eg not wow). So...

What games will you be playing?

... and when you say light programming, any VM's?

Here's my best shot. $781.92 before shipping.

59.99 Cooler Master RC-690 Case
54.99 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12
28.99 LITE-ON CD/DVD Burner
112.99 AMD Athlon II X4 630 95W Processor
119.99 ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 790X
94.99 4GB G.SKILL DDR3-1333
209.99 Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon 4890
99.99 Corsair 650TX 650W PSU

SUB 781.92
TOTAL 802.90

Of course, being that I abhor cabling issues, I can't officially recommend the listed power supply, tho. I only put it there because it's a great deal, and it will meet your performance and price requirement. This Corsair 650HX is what I would do, personally. And did do! ;)

Edit: Went with a better motherboard.

Games = Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Call of Duty, Crysis, Far Cry 2, etc.

and I'll be starting a virtualization class next semester so yes, I'll be running a few. Not 24/7 or anything.
