80 PLUS PLATINUM

There will be others, just not yet.

Next will be power supplies that defy the 2nd law of thermodynamics. 100% efficiency ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!

That's the first law of thermodynamics. The second prevents 100% efficiency.

I wonder what comes after Platinum... Unobtainium?
Diamond and Masters... ehhhh well thats how it is on SCII :p

Back to thread, im looking foward to that seasonic 1000W, atm the AX1200 looks great, but i dont need that much, would be great about if its more efficient that the current psus.

nothing a plasma fusion core wont fix,150% efficiency lol

and enermax coming with high power platinum units up to 1500 watts i believe

I hope they can get something like 95-97% efficiency for computer PSU's. The main benefit I see is the elimination of almost all the heat that the power supply produces, so with some good passive sinks or a sinked body, the PSU's could become sealed and fanless. A 1000 watt PSU thats 97% efficient would mean 30 watts of heat under full load, less than half that at half load... easily enough for a passive sink to export. Cant wait for that enermax though... I have high hopes for it performance-wise...

Seasonic does produce a fan-less power supply but not in the 1000w range. My Seasonic X-650 fan does not even turn on majority of the time. My ATI HD 5670 graphics card is fanless that that is the highest I normally see a ATI card being fanless. We still have the CPU producing a great deal of heat and some of my hard drives do get hot. Once we lowered the heat from the system I can lower the case fans and it would be more quiet as well.

With a massive passive external radiator, my computer only has the one fan in the enermax rev85+ PSU, and as it is, it just recirculates any heat it makes within the case itself so it doesn't have any contact with the outside air. The heat just transfers through the aluminum case panels at a passive level. It barely is on as well, but if I could do away with the fan all together, I would love it. There are waterblocks on everything in the computer case though, except the HDD... the Samsung F1's and F3's in there barely produce heat.
