8 Pin PCI-E Connector!?

I was wondering where can a person buy an 8 pin PCI-E connector, I bought a 2900XT and would like to get the 8 pin connector so that i can OC this thing when the time is right?

Anyone have a source?

i believe there are a few PSU's out (corsair, silverstone) which have 8pin PCI-E connectors in the tangle...

as far as a molex to 8pin PCI-E adapter goes... that might be a better question for ATI or whichever AIB partner you purchased your card from.


i'm really interested to see how well this new 8-pin PCI-E connection is supported. obviously, people have questions and problems about it already.


how hard would it have been to include an adapter in the box?

I spoke to a rep at PC Power & Cooling, the newer revisions of the PSU come with the 2 6 pin & 2 6/8 pin connectors. But they do also sell an adapter for about 5$ to adapt a 6pin to an 8pin.

So I hope that helps anyone else who is looking to OC their 2900xt
 
You could make one...

The other pins are just grounds.

I heard the MSI bundle came with an 8pin converter, but I can't be certain.
 
I also discovered that Diamond is bundling 2 adapters with their cards. Funny how sapphire doesnt include it nor does HIS. Just MSI and Diamond:rolleyes:

That cable won't work for your PC Power and Cooling PSU. Its made for the Enermax PSU that has cable management. It will probably work for other PSU's with cable management, but I don't believe The PCPower and cooling 750 silencer has cable management (removable cables).

Your right, the PC Power and Cooling is not modular (removable cables) but thankfully PC Power and Cooling offers the cables/adapters. Thats where I am getting mine from. Thanks for the headz up tho.
 
I'm glad I searched. I was worried that my new PS is already outdated with the 6 pin PCIe connectors. I can just get an 8 pin adapter when needed. whew
 
Wood, just so you know, you don't need the 8-pin power adapter to OC the card. I have a 2900pro (which has the 8pin connector) but don't have an actual connector. Using ATI tool, you can still bump up the clocks. Mine is running 825 core/ 890 mem.
 
8 pin pci express connector is only required for the catalyst panel to unlock the overdrive controls.
