8.7 out?

yeah i go into vista 32bit and then theres 2 options and 2 extra downloads. do i have to uninstall my current drivers?
 
Good catch! Glad these are FINALLY out... been having some issues with my 4870 and hoping these will fix these issues. (issues were with HL2)
 
What is the best method for installing the latest drivers? Uninstall old one (hotfix) and install new ones ( 8.7) or is it all the same to just install the new ones over the old ones?
I have run into issues when trying the 1st method.

not when u do an upgrade of current drivers, only if u go back or switch manufacture all together

Where do you guys see the drivers on the ati website? I was just there and all they have is the hotfix
 
go a little lower. im not sure if this helps anyone but my 4850 with this driver @ 690/1100 got a vantage gpu score of 6712

I just downloaded and installed the latest drivers. Is there a fan control section in the Catalyst Control Center?
 
Strange i am actually seeing lower performance on my 4870 at Folding than I was before.

I haven't installed the 8.7's yet, but to my knowledge you couldn't see the fan speed in the previous drivers. If they implemented it in this driver it will probably be under "overdrive". I'll have a look when I install and check back.
 
oh then i dont really see a difference in catalyst for fan speed then and i wouldnt trust 3dmark06 in the first place, try to get vantage as that more accurate for newer cards
 
Fan speeds still arent fixed... Installed these drivers, my fan speeds went back to stock and I was idling at like 80. Loaded my profile back, and they're down to 60. (33% fan speed)
 
well i dont like 3dmark at all and dont really trust it over real gameplay but since i saw that its supposed to increase vantage by 20% for the other products i was wondering if it increase the 4850's and i dont have any of the games listed on the first page on hand to test.
 
thats vantage, not 3dmark 06... 3dmark 06 isnt recommended for any of the new gens(as a accurate benchmarking tool).
 
Fan speed isn't broken, per an ATI tester @ Rage3D.

i've read on other forums that people are getting better performance with the 8.7 betas than the official 8.7's.
 
Geez man, so gamers get to wait another month for 8.8 and hope performance improves on official drivers? Not to mention, every time they upgrade drivers, they have to load their hacked profiles to cool down the card?

I'm sorry, but I can't support this with my build. I'm going to have to pick up a GTX 260.

As an owner of the 4870, I can't say I blame you. The drivers are horrendous, and CCC should be considered a crime against humanity.
 
Cedar I just bought a 4850, my first ATI card ever. I bought this to upgrade from a 7600GT and I'm satisfied with the purchase overall. My problem though is I essentially feel like a beta-tester. I mean, who releases a card and doesnt even have the official drivers on the webpage? ATI has always has the reputation for bad drivesr ( maybe this is an old impression), but it's the impression *I've* always had. And this just reinforces that reputation. I dont mind the temps so much, I see what they where going for. Everyone always bitches about loud fans so they built a chip that can withstand high temps, I get that. But the driver issue is ridiculous. I'm having artifact issues in HL2, that while minor, I never had with the 7600GT. Again, I'm satisfied overall with my purchase and I love supporting the underdog and promoting competition in the industry but to expect me to run unsupported hotfix drivers on a new card thats supposed to be their saving grace, c'mon. I can understand that drivers right now wont be optimized, but at the same time, how long has this card been in production? Are drivers a last minute thing at ATI? Do they make the card then leave the drivers to the interns? I'm not complaining so much about the quality of the drivers but it just seems like the attitude toward the software side of the development process is a bit haphazard.

This is only my second time posting so I might get dismissed as a troll. But I mean this more as constructive criticism. Everything on the software side for nvidia has always felt so polished and professional. Look at CCC, there's orphaned freeware on sourceforge with more polish than that atrocity.
