Sooo hello everyone, ive update the drivers a week back with them latest 8.3 from 5th march and ive been having some trouble with WoW frames and starting ...
Starting WoW once per boot works but every time i try to start it after ive played and havent rebooted the pc i get black screen and cannot do anything (need reboot but the pc isnt frozen)
In areas where usualy get 60ish fps now i get 35 ish with the 2d clock fix ... standart CCC settings. Any thoughts ?

Vista 32bit, hd3870, 8.3 catalyst nothing else on the system is changed except the video drivers:confused:
 
I get the blackscreen also and the pc's not frozen. If you can exit the game and get back to your desktop the overlay should kick in and work and show your desktop again.

Also if you turn off the VPU recovery the blackscreen wont happen and instead the game will lockup.

I have had the blackscreen happen with 3 different ATI cards, 9800pro, 1950pro and now this 3850 AGP.
When I put my 6800GT back in, WoW does not do the blackscreen with it.
So I assume its a problem with ATi and something with their drivers and D3D, cause when I force WoW to run in OpenGL on the ATi cards the blackscreen never happened.

I have read about people with nVidia cards having the blackscreen problem... but it mostly seems to be ATi having this. And I saw alot post on the AMD/ATi forums about D3D games and the blackscreen,

IMHO it almost looks like the cards are suffering from the infinite loop error and the drivers are just trying to catch it and recover from and failing to do so.

PS: alot vista users experience this, but the vpu recovery thing seems to help with it
 
UUm ok since Vista SP1 update every second WoW run is crash with :

And i do not have VPU recovery in my CCC ... (so i cannot disable it)
if i force to opengl i get uber low 5ish fps and slow slow loading ...
Its good that im getting bored with wow :rolleyes: i think ill stick to ATI enchanced games like TF2 ;)
 
The problem is what ATi has been doing to their drivers since after the cat 7.10 or 7.12's :(

They have really been messing up the openGL.
If you head over to Driverheaven, they talk alot about this and tell which files to put back from the older cats to fix the new cats 8.0 or newer problem with openGL.

These new drivers have broke alot openGL benchmarks and on some of them I can not even run WoW in openGL at all.

On older videocards you could just stay with an older cat version... but if you have one the newer cards you are forced to upgrade to the new cats.


And ya I have already froze my WoW account and been playing in the beta for the new Conan mmo coming out this May.

Running MY 3870.. in wow 1920x1200 no problems with Vista SP1. I was running it fine before SP1 and running even better after. One thing I did do recently was wipe and reinstall my system then without evening going online I just installed Sp1 after Vista was finished installing and completed its first boot. I didn't even type in my product or activate Till after I had sp1 installed and all the rest of the system drivers installed afterward. So far so good.
 
Yes well i know about conan im planing to try it but im not sure how it will run on my system ... also ive payed for wow till 14th april :rolleyes:

Post made in 640x480 with crashed drivers just before reset of the pc ... yes WOW crashed :)
 
Why not just go back to the older drivers if they work? Who cares if the version number isnt the "newest"? At least youll be happily frittering away the hours in WOW :D
 
Okay so uninstalling all ati software from the pc + driver cleaner + new 8.3 installation seems to have fixed the crashing and black screen. :D
