7v modding my Delta fan.....

Alright, here's a ridiculously newbish question from yours truely. I am going to be finally getting my heatercore installed inside the case in a day or two, and instead of my 25mm thick aluminum fan @ 80cfm I wanna use my Delta. The problem is that my 38mm thick Delta blows about 190cfm and is about as loud as a Tornado cranked up. I'd like to 7v mod the Delta because I figure it'll still be blowing more air then the aluminum is, and the fact that it's a 38mm fan will also help me out.

Can anyone get me pointed in the right direction for a "how to" on doing the 7v mod.....I know it's nothing difficult....I've just never had the want or desire to do it, and thus I've never looked into it.

Any help would be much appreciated.
 
on a regular molex connector you have 4 pins (i know, you know this)

yellow = 12v
red= 5v
black = ground

if you ground out the 12v with the 5v you get 12v-5v=7v

so basically remove the red pin and the black pin closest to the yelllow and swap em

Thx, that's exactly what I needed....just needed to remember/see what order the wires went in.....doing it now, and I'll hook it up in a sec to test it out.

EDIT: NIIIIICE.......it's sooo much quieter and still blows WAY more air then that 120x25mm aluminum fan....which means it's probly still up around 100cfm at 7v.

check your local CompUSA. this summer they had these little voltage controllers that adjusted the voltage from 7V, to 10V, to 12V. it also has a speaker that beeps if the fan stops while the computer is on. they must have not been selling them because they were trying to get rid of them for $5 so i got 2. they had A LOT in southern MA.
